YES you can do it. What's the difference??? Is the same as a new installation. If you do it yourself is free just separate half day or a few hours to work with the installation. Is recommended to buy new speaker wires and power wires.

Amplifiers, subwoofers and head units are fairly universal, so they should work in your next vehicle as well as the current one. You may need to purchase new adapter parts such as a wire harness or mounting kit to make the head unit work.

Speakers are available in various sizes to replace the stock speaker size in the car. If you bought new speakers for the Explorer, you'd need to make sure that the next vehicle you bought had the same size speakers so you can transfer them. A Explorer uses 6x8" speakers in the front and rear doors; most newer Fords use the same size, so if you're planning to replace it with a Ford family vehicle then they should transfer.

If you don't expect to buy another Ford, then use adapters to install 6 1/2" speakers into your Explorer instead. There are a lot more cars that take 6 1/2" speakers than 6x8" speakers so you have a better chance of being able to use them in the next vehicle.

As mentioned above, many installation shops will remove the new equipment and re-install the factory equipment, free of charge, when you're done with the car. If you're having it installed professionally ask the installer if they offer that service, and be sure to keep your receipt to prove they did the original installation. (You will have to pay again to have the equipment installed into your next vehicle).
