It's been almost a week and my cat hasn't returned. We have posters up but I want to make some with a reward on it. What should I write on it? And what amount would be a good reward?

I am so sorry, and I absolutely feel your pain. About 3 months ago, I was in a similar situation. I searched high and low, and scoured the neighborhood in the middle of the night, hoping he would turn up. After 5 days and 50 reward posters later, I ran across an article on missing cats and how to find them. Cats stay within their own territory unless scared off or chased, in which case they may be legitimately lost and unable to find their way home. Some cats do, eventually find their way home, but some can't without help (this is why posters are important). He may also be trapped in a neighbor's garage or shed, or may have been injured and retreated to a crawl space or other confined area. It is so very important to go to each one of your neighbor's houses, explain how sad you are about your missing kitty, and ask if you can take a peek in their yard (bring a flashlight). Don't rely on them to look, because they may not do a thorough search, and your baby may be sick or injured with the clock ticking. I realize this sounds intrusive, but I used this approach and you will be surprised how compassionate your neighbors can be. I wish I had done my research sooner, and had known that 9 times out of 10 your cat is trapped in a 5 house radius. Had I known, I might have been able to save my kitty. We found him in the far corner of the crawl space under our house. I can't help thinking that if I had found him sooner, he would be alive.
I wish you the best of luck.
Also, do not put a reward amount on poster, simply REWARD, as crooks will see the amount and attempt to scam you. Leave the poster simple. REWARD at top. Picture of cat in center. Below in slightly smaller font "Gray Cat" or "Black Cat" - simple is key, since the larger words will be what catches their eye first. Below in smaller font, you can describe cat (leave at least one detail to yourself so you can avoid scam artists).

I am sorry for your pain. Losing a cat is very hard.

Try just saying REWARD on the posters, so people won't try to make an easy buck and mess with you. I would offer about 100 dollars, give or take.

Try going to shelters in your area. My moms friend lost a dog and she called the Humane Society everyday and they said they hadn't found the dog. But when she actually went to the humane society they said the dog had been there for four days! The dog had a microchip too, but the scanner missed it, so keep checking the shelters!

Good luck, and I hope you find your cat SOON!!!

Stacey- feel so sorry for you. Recently I lost my dog. She was picked up by the animal control. I suggest checking there first. You should also send pictures to all the vets in a fifty mile area, that way if someone brings her in they can contact you. It is always better to just say reward and not put an amount on it. I dont know if there are any bunchers in your area but this is a poss. google it. are there any loose dogs around your house? hopefully they aren't to blame. Place a lost pet ad in your newspaper they often do this for free. Call a local radio station - some will add a missing pet into the local news. Hopefully something i said will help you. Percy(mydog) was LOST by our local pound. We believe one of the workers was very fond of her and took her home. Oh yeah- contact the humane society they canoffer you help too!! Best Wishes

I agree with one of the posters abiove, just put the word reward, not the amount. See if you can print a picture pf the cat on the flyer.
Best of luck.

Just put the word "REWARD" on it. You can determine the amount later...put a picture of the cat and it's name and any features that may help identify him. Call the humane society in your area so they can keep an eye out for the cat too.

Don't get discouraged yet, If your cat is male and has not been fixed it could be awhile until he returns home.
Just a quick story, I have a cat stayed with my mom when I had to leave town for work. He disappeared for about 3 weeks and than one day my neighbors, where I hadn't lived for 2 yrs, called and said they found my cat. Hope everything turns out well for you.

Check the city AND the county humane societies. And check vet's offices. If your cat could have possibly gotten injured, perhaps some kind person took him/her to the vet.

Put out dry cat food and some water. When our cat was missing it was for a month and a week. We put out food and water to lure him back in case he was around. After all that time, we saw him hiding in a gutter. So don't despair; I'm sure he or she will come back if able to do so.

Just put ''reward''. Don't offer a lot, though. When I found a cat, the owner gave me $50 (I didn't expect a reward, I just knew that if it was my cat, I'd want it home).
