As a person that studies both government and religion, i don't believe that any refrence to god should be on any type of money. Here are some of the reasons.

1. God wouldn't want to be put on something as trivial as money.
2. God wouldn't want money to be tied into belief.
3. Not everyone believes in god, or in the same god.
4. In the 40's & 50's it was put on, not when the currency was first used. Do we actually need it on money?
5. Money is changed all the time, so what would it hurt if the next time the Mint changes the doller, to remove the phrase off the bill's?
6. Seperation of Church and state would demand that the money be free of all religious ties.
7. Do we need the government to tell us how to believe when we are spending money?
8. Who does it hurt by removing this from money?
9. Would Jesus or God care if it was removed from money?
10. Would it hurt anyone if the phrase was removed from money? Wouldn't it just make the Money of the last 80 years worth more to the people that collect it?
11. We have changed money alot, like adding people to and removing people off of coins in the past. What does it matter to the mint if they have to change one more time?

Hope this helps

Hell no!

Just did that for shock affect..... Wow! These responses are sometimes sooo antagonistic! Which actually is the response you were trying to evoke.
As others wrote, this country was founded as "one Nation, under God". It was placed there hopefully to remind us that the only power that money gives us is the power that has come from God. You use it for good, and you will yeild good fruits. You use it for evil, and money will control you. As the other responder mentioned, has taken God out of our schools done us any good?
He has been stripped from so much in our society, and it shows. Every day. Even though God doesn't derive his power from the monetary symbols of our bills, do you really think it is a good idea to strip away a possibility that some drunk, down-loden soul can't cry in his beer, and have his wandering eyes slowly read maybe what could be a a life changing message on his last dollar................"In God we Trust"

It is much better than the handwritten message of some nitwit saying, "Call Jenny for a good time"!

Respect the message, and respect the power of that which is given to us.

Worry more about messages you can leave to society that is positive........
hopefully not on the almighty dollar!

Well, there is not picture of God on it, but if you are refering to the word, then yes we should take it off. God didn't make the dollar bill. Murders, forgers, rapist, bad and evil people, athiest, all use money, with the name of God on it. How ironic

Should we? Honestly, I think so... I'm forced to use money that advocates a particular religious belief that I do not hold, and that our (supposed to be secular and neutral) government has mandated as universal... seems kind of unconstitutional to me.

But I'm also with a lot of people here... whether it stays or goes has no relevance to whether or not said god actually exists. Put god anywhere the hell you want... doesn't make him any more real.

If Jesus (thanks for proving that it's the Christian god we're talking about here...) and God are in your heart, then why do you need the government to endorse your particular personal faith? Isn't having the freedom to hold those views enough?

It doesn't really matter that much. If the name "God" is on the dollar bill, it doesn't mean it will instill love and spiritual devotion towards Him. If it is not, life will go on the same way. Plus, I believe, God should be in the hearts and minds of men. Material things, such as money, are temporary.

Jesus said to look at the coin, and it had Caesar on it. He said to "render unto Caesar what is Caesar's." Something like money belongs to the worldly leaders. We are not supposed to get caught up in worldly things. So I think it is a bit contradictory to put God on our money. I mean, I believe we should use our wealth for God's glory, but then not everyone in the USA believes in God, and some of them use that money for things that God wouldn't want any part of.

Wel...when was it added? I know the Under God part of the pledge wasn't added until the late 40's or 50's as a way to "Search out" communism, so I have no problem with seeing that go. It wasn't originally there. But the God on money...well if its always been there then who cares?

I've never seen him on there. What country has God on the Dollar?

"Today we are engaged in a final, all-out battle between Communistic Atheism and Christianity."
Joseph McCarthy

The "In God we Trust" was put on the money during the fifties at the height of McCarthyism, they added the under God phrase to your Oath of Allegiance at the same time.
Senator McCarthy used the threat of Communism as a political tool against anybody who questioned his political aims. It was the time of the Commitee on Unamerican Ways.
It was a political witch hunt.

To be honest I don't think He'd care. I mean He probably doesn't mind but it isn't where He would likely have us look for Him, on the face of something that symbolizes materialism. I imagine He'd prefer we see Him in each other and not in society's symbolisms. Money is a place for the photos of politicians, and He is several steps ahead of that group.
