I had a phone interview and a personal interview with the president of the compnay. This is a small company so I know that he is pulling multiple duties, especially know that the weather it getting better outside. My confusion is he has sent me an email saying that he would give me an offer the next week, then sends an email that week saying it'll be a little longer. It has been a few weeks and he still emails me telling me that the offer is coming and that he needs just a little more time. He assures me that he will send something as soon as he's done with a new start up company he's working on. My question is how long should I allow this to continue before I consider this void? It just confuses me that when let it go I suprisingly get an email from him "touching basis".

Thanks,

Kev

I'd get a hold of him or atleast leave him messages telling him how interested you are in this job. Let him know that you've been offered many opportunities and you would greatly appreciate it if he could let you know as soon as possible or you'll be forced to take another position because you have no time to waste. Tell him that you are looking foward to working with him but you are running out of time. Sometimes the boss likes to see people take initiative and call them to tell them how bad they want to be apart of their business.

It sounds like this is really a small company and he may have alot going on or they don't have their act together, but you will have to decide that since you know the company alittle. As far not actually giving the offer yet if you do feel like the guy just has alot on his plate; I would e-mail him back or call and tell him you are interested, but you need to have an offer soon because other companies are interested in you, but you would like to be able to accept his offer and tell the other you have made a different choice, this always makes a company rethink hiring you and making a faster move, just be sure not to sound too sure that you will take another offer cause you don't want this company to think oh never mind we won't offer cause they wont come here anyhow!

Keep looking. If you get another offer but would prefer to work for the first company, email the president (or, better, call him) and tell him about the situation. I would never tell a prospective employer that I am receiving or expecting other offers unless you have an offer in hand. Lots of people try that and the would-be employer has seen/heard it dozens of times.

He is showing you the type of boss he will be, if and when he offers you a job. If you want to work for someone who is distracted, unorganized, and has many iron in the fire at the same time, keep waiting for him to "let you know". Otherwise, keep looking. Other opportunities are passing you by while you are waiting for him to find the time to get back with you. Unless, this is your dream job, move on and keep looking. It will be his loss that he didnt take 5 minutes to contact you, and that he lost a potential great employee to someone else due to his lack of prioritizing.

I would just lob him an email stating that you think you may have another ofer coming but you really want to go to work for him and you were just hoping you could at least get a letter of intent or something along those lines....

good luck
