If you've had a renal transplant, you can eat tomatoes.

As for the salt: sometimes these patients have difficulty with high blood pressure and fluid overload, thus the reasons for keeping away from the salt. A healthy kidney's job is to regulate salt levels in the body.

Fish is a nice healthy option to eat regardless of medical condition if it is fresh and does not have significant levels of mercury. Depending on the reason for the transplant, years spent on dialysis, etc, these patients can be at a particularly high risk for heart disease and atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). This makes fish great as it is lower in fat and cholesterol than other options.

Don't really know why a Kidney Tx patient would need to stay away from tomatoes unless the patient had an allergy to them, a reason they could stay away because of the sodium. Now a Kidney Tx patient should stay away any added salt such as table salt because they medications can and most likely give them high blood pressure, which can damage the new transplanted kidney among other parts of your body such as your heart. You are going to need to talk to your Transplant team about your dietary needs. A transplant pt should stay away from grapefruit (as well as anything that contains grapefruit) - this can change the way the transplant medications are broken down...

Congrats on the transplant!

Remember take your medications and drink plenty of fluids!

As said above, a kidney transplant patient doesn't need to stay away from tomatoes unless they're allergic to them. However, they are asked to stay away from grapefruit if they're taking a medication like prograf (an immunosuppressant). They should stay away from table salt because too much salt can make you retain fluid and raise blood pressure (which is bad for kidney transplant patients). Eating fish in moderation is good for pretty much everybody.
