Seriously this is an honest question. I didn't understand the banners and boycotts (that by the way just brought MORE attention to the whole thing) Its a movie? A story based on some history. No one had heart failure when Passion of the Christ and One Night With the King came out (both good movies) If a MOVIE changes your faith, then your faith wasn't that strong. If it "turns you away" then your faith wasn't that strong. If it "leads you astray" your faith wasn't that strong. What's wrong with making someone think?

Ok maybe some people did believe it was true. And? Some people thing the Passion of the Christ was fiction. I was appalled that children lined up to see a blood sacrifice! But I didn't have a fit. Its your right to see whatever you want. My faith wasn't threatened.

Ok I totally missed who said it was true. Was it based on some history and researchable fact? Yes, that is what made it such good fiction!
As far as people insulting my mother figure, my faith, my practice...it happens EVERY day. I actually live in FEAR. So please don't throw that one at me.

As I Christian I am not. I thought is was an okay movie and just another book.

Did not bother me in the slightest and I do not feel as though my faith and belief are in jeopardy because of it.

The jeopardy of my beliefs is coming from all the warring and judgmental Sects of the Christian beliefs.

Peace & Love,
Sam

There's a lot of people that are way too sensitive about things and need to grow up. The people convinced by the Da Vinci Code can be unconvinced just as easily or are simply looking for a reason to disbelieve. The history behind the document is so convoluted and silly it fails even casual scrutiny.

I've never been too terribly threatened by it and remind people that there's an annual outrage. If it's such a threat, learn some history and debunk it. Its history really is a joke.

I waited until the controversy died down (some) before reading The DaVinci Code. Afterward, I was very disappointed. "This is what so many people were so upset about?!??" (I do want to note that I was equally disappointed on the other side. Having already heard some of the theory behind the book prior to reading and seeing nothing "novel"-bad pun- about it, I thought, "This is what so many people thought to be so great?") Then there was the collection of books against The DaVinci Code. Do preachers really have nothing better to do? No one to help? No homeless to feed? They have all their more important duties done and now they have free-time to devote to attacking a book that says clearly on the binding, "fiction." Really... the entire controversy is over nothing (or very little).

As for The Passion of the Christ... I'll admit I went to the theater when it was packed to see what the buzz was about. With all those emotional and crying people around me, I just wanted to shout..."The story has a happy ending... I promise!"

I think what disturbs us is we know a lot of simple minded people will take it as fact and not investigate. It was a novel, not a book of History, not even a historical novel. Even a writer of a historical novel sticks to the truth in main events/

For instance:

The Dead Sea Scrolls do not mention Jesus, Mary Magdalene or Christianity.

The Knights Templar were banished in the 1300s.
The Jesuits were not founded until the 1500s.

The Church tried to denigrate women? What religion has held a woman in more reverence than the Catholic Church for Mary, the mother of Jesus.

The Priory of Sion did not come into existence until the 1950s.

Gnostic Christians believed the material world including the flesh was evil.

There are a lot of good points, but I want to add something: I think that Christianity is also threatened by people knowing too much about its history. For example, how the Bible was cannonized, who decided what was in and out and why. They might see too clearly the hand of man in their holy book, and that can threaten faith.

Christianity is much better off when people simply accept the Bible as the Word of God and stop there. Knowledge can be detrimental there. And, the Da Vinci Code, while not giving a complete history, points the way to studying its past.

And the whole bit about Jesus being human and some people believing it ;-)

I wasn`t angry ,in fact I couldn`t wait to see it.There was some fact but most wasn`t ,but it was a good story. Some folks think that the movie or book could lead people a stray that really don`t know the truth. Some people are new in their walk with God and I guess it could confuse them. And then there are those who are right ready to jump at any thing that doesn`t fit in with the truth about Jesus. Why I don`t know.I say if you don`t believe I feel sorry for you but leave those that do a lone to have faith and worship God the way they want to.Those who do know the word of God and also history know that the Codes weren`t right.

The DaVinci Code is 95% fiction. Do a little research and you will discover this. The guy that wrote it has even admitted that nothing in that book is a provable fact. I, as a Christian, don't like that movie because it is being presented as fact and misleading quite a few people. Just because a movie says its true, doesn't make it true. The movie folks knew it would become a scandal because of this, and guess who got the money?

You answered your own question.

I think the DaVinci Code contains both truth and lies, which one can mull over for themselves. I liked some of the things that were brought up in discussion as a result.

I've heard (gossip) that his next move is to exposé the Mormons (I am one).

Ever heard of the saying, "Any publicity is good publicity"?

Well, look at the number of Westerners who are now learning about Islam, and embracing that faith, as a result of all the negative press because of terrorists.

Controversy creates curiosity. Bring it on I say!

Peace ;)

Ask yourself what if someone started spreading outright lies about your mother or daughter (assuming you love your family), that dragged their integrity and character through the mud. Wouldn't you be the least bit outraged. The DaVinci Code did nothing to diminish Christians faith. On the contrary it motivated us to brush up on our apologetics so as to debunk the lies presented in the movie to those who are not familiar with Christianity. Unfortunately not all those who saw the movie were able to hear the Truth and walked away deceived or confused.

I agree with the last four sentences.

Fundamentalists are against nearly anything that is even the slightly against what they believe. Their so certain that their right that they want everyone else to believe the same thing. They don't want people even thinking for a second if what they say is wrong. However, there's open-minded Christians out there who don't let a movie like that get to them.
