It is because people cannot get out of their EGO long enough to see the connection that everyone on this planet has to the divine. Human ways ,make them feel that they MUST be right. And if anybody differs from their point of view, they are the enemy. It was once told to me that religion was created by man to keep the poor in line. This is why I am spiritual an not religious. I myself spent some time studying all beliefs. I found that all are correct to some degree and all have HUMAN agendas. If you really look at it,in any doctrine, its all about respect for your fellow human, tolerance,LOVE and being true to your own spiritual heart. But unfortunately people choose to say we are better than you. This is separatism. And some where, in all teachings, separatism is what the (for lack of a better term) dark angel wants us to be in. Therefore we will war against another. And governments (unwittingly) have a play in this. The reason people fight each other is because of
Ego, Agenda, Politics, Money, and lack of an understanding
of the phrase.....We were created in God's image. Just think about it. Love Be With You :):):)

On the surface, when you look at or hear someone speak of different religions, it may seem that most are similar. But when you begin to study each religion for what it is, what it teaches, its writings, etc., then a picture emerges which shows each religion to be separate and distict from each other. There are even differences within the Christian community today. If you hear the word "church" preceeded by "baptist" or "methodist", you would think these churches would involve the same teachings, but you would be wrong. On the surface they would appear the same, but some churches have stopped teaching parts of the Bible while others have stopped altogether. One of the first things one should look for is if the church teaches the entire word of God and makes no apologies for it. In the United States today, we have supposedly over 80% who label themselves as christians but then turn around and state that they do not believe in certian parts of the bible. They deny such things as the virgin birth, Christ being the Son of God, the resurrection, and Christ being the only path for salvation, etc. I am focusing on Christianity because that is what I know. If you examine Islam and read the Qua'ran, you will see that it in not a religion of peace that most in the mainstream make it out to be. They lable those who state that infadels (those who deny allah) should be put to death as fanatics. Do not take my word for it, research it, read it for yourselves. Again, most religions are very different under the surface, you just have to dig down a little deeper. If you really want to know about a certian religion, read their texts such as the Bible or the Qua'ran to find out what they truly teach.

Good question! There are many potential answers. Humans have been fighting over religion since time immemorial, mostly because each person believes that his or her theological point of view is the only valid one, and, since there are countless sects within religions, even those with similar views do not agree where doctrine is concerned. (In Iraq Sunnis and Shiites are killing each other; why would they feel any empathy toward Christians or Jews?) Each religious order believes that it is the favored of God, and many fundamentalists believe that they alone will be saved. There is much discrimination preached within the context of Biblical scripture, as well. Also, some of what are interpreted by the majority as religious conflicts are, in actuality, political wars masquerading as theists' disagreements.

Religions cannot fight - people can, and do... about anything.

If there were no religions to fight over, people would invent them. Fighting is crucial to humans - they have always done it and always will.

Religions seem to become the focus because they always include laws, reasons and instructions about ordinary things. And this includes territory, structures, possessions, wealth, power, beliefs and relationships. Stuff of everyday life.

Strictly speaking, people fight over what religion affects, and not the religion itself.

In Ireland this week, they have come to some sort of conclusion they have been fighting over for centuries. The two denominations of the same religion have decided to live and let live. How long it will last is anybody's guess. But people think it is because they are now facing a common opposite... another sort of religion that is confronting them both, perhaps?

It is really about territory, about belonging, about possession, about fear. And it stems from the fact that we have no idea what happens to us when we die.

It also stems from the fact humans make a connection to place. Think about it - if someone came and demanded your home, would you fight to protect it, or move to a new spot?

It's a very old story. And it keeps getting younger.

Religions do not fight each others. It is people that fight each others.

Swords do not kill people. It is the people, whom use the swords, kill people. Guns can be used by police to protect people's safety. But when guns are in the wrong hands, then it can be a danger to society.

If you have good religious leaders, then religions would do good to the human race. If you have bad religious leaders, then religions would do damages to the human race.

Religions are intended to benefit society in general. But sometimes religions can be misinterpreted by some religious leaders. Misinterpretation can lead to misunderstanding. Misunderstanding can lead to conflict. Conflict can cause wars. Wars can ruin people's lives, destabilize society, destroy properties, and damaging economy.

For the great peace of the human race, lets hope that all religious people interpret their own religion in a positive way.

We are a big family on planet earth. Lets all treat each others like brothers and sisters. Let respect and love be the foundation of all religions.

Because it is human nature to believe you are special. No one wants to believe that the other guy is of the "chosen religion". Until the human race learns how to accept others and place value on each human life, there will always be wars. That mindset also applies to countries, races, social classes and just about every other way you can put people into categories. Controlling people through religion lets leaders wield tremendous power. How many unspeakable acts have been committed in the name of religion by inhuman psychopaths? It is easy to accept the norms of your society, especially religion. People don't want to be singled out as "different". They want to be accepted. And they want to think they are special.

Economics, politics, resources, etc. Can you think of any groups who actually fight over religious differences? Even fanatical terrorists cite political agendas (Palestinian rights, US out of Saudi Arabia, etc.). The Crusades were backed by political propaganda (specifically, the destruction of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the murder of Europeans in the Holy Land), as well as the desire for wealth. Islamic excursions into western Europe and the former Byzantine Empire were over land, money and resources. Atheist attacks against theists in the Soviet Union were all about economic models and population control. The Spanish Inquisition handed 'heretics' over to civil authorities, who executed the same for political sedition. The conquest of South America was based on greed and moral outrage over the mass human sacrifices praticed by the natives. The exploitation of local islanders in the Caribean at the hands of the Dutch was motivated by greed, and carried out in the name of money.

Compare all of the above to the religious plurality in the United States. We have more religions that almost any other nation, but no sectarian battles. Why do you suppose that is? Every nation experiencing sectarian violence is also plagued with vast differences between economic classes, extremely high poverty rates, occupying military forces, civil war, battles over local natural resources, etc.

They each believe they are the one and only one. The question is "Why do they believe that conversion by force is a good thing." They all have a different take on that. And that view can change within religions over time.

There is so much fighting because people are stupid and ignorant. Im sure the bible does not tell people to kill others. it tells you to love one another. I believe that all religions are good. they all tell good things, but i believe that a religion only becomes bad when it falls into the hands of illiterate and ignorant people.

It is because they think they can believe without loving one another. I think they do not get the Koran and the Bible right, or they do not read at all.
