If you really want to improve muscle tone, you need to use weight or resistance training. Three or more times a week is best. A simple aerobic workout probably won't do it for you. And if the video's only ten minutes long, that's not enough; shoot for at least 30 minutes. My workout routine starts with 20 min of cardio, and usually at least 30 additional minutes of weightlifting/strength training. That's the best way I've found for my own improvement.

I weight lift for strength training, so I'll speak from that perspective: For straight up toning, aim for three or four sets of fifteen or twenty reps of any given exercise; if you can make it much past 20, use more weight. If you want to add a little muscle, go for ten to fifteen reps per set; again, if you can get much past fifteen, use more weight.

I break my exercise routine up into three parts, since I can only get to the gym about 3 times a week: the first day I do back and biceps, and some abs; the second day I do chest and triceps, and some abs, and the third day I do legs. Legs use LOTS of energy. My husband is a weightlifter, as well, and he'd concur with what I've recommended. HTH.

I dont know what the workout consists of .. but lets assume its a namby pamby thing like pilates.... that's really going to hurt... and all that stretching is great for extending your muscles to their limits... making them stronger and toned. Three times a week will show a bit of improvement in core strength... but every day is truly the way to go with that stuff. If it is only 10 minutes.. that's too short. try and do at least 40 minutes a day. One day to feel changes and three weeks to see changes, I think.

Hoff mom is absolutely right. Weightlifting is much more effective than cardio. However, nutrition is also a crucial component.

Here is a sample workout:
