I have another car and i am looking to modify somthing else on the side. I have 6-7K to work with. I could find a 1996-1997 cobra mustang with +80-160K miles or a new model GT with less miles and have more money to modify it. Here is the thing go with the resale value or mods. I would have to yank the engine in the GT to do cams which i would do so at that time i could just rebuild it and port and polish the intake. And the cobra would stay with stock internals and either of them would get either a supercharger or turbo at one time or anther.

Depends, If you want a Cobra go with 03-04, they are already S/C and dont really need to be modded. If the option is only between a 96-97 and the new GT, I suggest you get the 05+ GT, considering there are alot of mods out there for those years.

I'd probably get the new GT. Lot less miles, better body style. Any cobra that old has probably had the dung beaten out of it anyway.

Adding high performance parts to a high milage engine is usually a bad idea too.

i would stay with the new model GT. but what i think u could do, is take an 03-04 cobra engine and drop it into the new Gt and the Kenny Bell supercharger on it. u will kill the times and anyone against you at the track!

i bought my wife an 2002 gt and have done some mods on it. the gt can out perform the cobra if right mods are put on. they have pretty much the same engine but the gt has more options.

i know some wouldn't agree, but get the GT and do the mods. ford beefed the chassis too much on the cobra, so they're heavier than the GT, and perform about the same for more cash.

Go with the Cobra. It has a stronger suspension and the engine is already beefed up to handle the extra HP.

Either one will do the job for you though. good luck.
