German Name Pronounciation???

I'll be calling a German gentleman tomorrow but have no idea of how to pronounce his name of "Bernd"! Any ideas?

I'm thinking it would be "burned" but also could see this as "bayernd" ...

Start with the English word 'bear' and finish with 'nt'.

I think his name is pronounced bearnd , like burned but with a soft E instead of the U.

it should sound like 'bear' with a soft 't' sound at the end.
