Never any national coverage. But you certainly hear a lot about priests. Of course 90% are unsupported allegations, and in any event the media had to go back thirty years to dredge up enough cases to artificially generate an "issue". Gosh - isn't that just a big ole anti-semitic slur that jews own the media? You know - I wonder if they're trying to make the Church look bad? Hmmm. And then this media black-out on pedophile rabbis. I'm glad there's at least one jewish organization that's keeps track of them or you wouldn't even know about them. My my my what a strange state of affairs.
Somehow I'm just not in a humorous mood tonight.

I've always felt the red-hot media "controversy" over priests & pedophilia was largely cooked up or contrived; it certainly did not emerge as authentic stories usually do. I did consider it an obvious effort to slander the Catholics. As far Rabbis are concerned, you are correct, such cases are reported in local newspapers only. And yes, most media outlets are owned by Jews, and even when they aren't - such as Murdoch - the management team is largely Jewish. Whether or not this ties together would make for an interesting discussion but people are actually very close-minded about anything that might involve criticizing Jews. I believe it is imagined that putting them above criticism will somehow undo or make up for the holocaust.

It depends one where you live and what the general prejudice is running at. A lot of it is political and societal. Up here in Canada there have been many Catholic priests who have been convicted of pedophilia but for some reason, they get maybe 2 days press, a slap on the wrist and that's about it. Teachers, evangelists, you name any one particular sect of religion, politics or society who has a member within displaying deviant behaviour and it's nothing more than a lottery call as to who gets the most media attention. It's not religious or political specific. Just what you're exposed to the most. Sad, but true. The press both North and South have their agendas and "gag" orders and what news items the editors or producers feel will generate the bigger $$.

Judaism doesn't have a hierarchy the same way many Christian (including Catholic) groups do, so there isn't the issue of covering up for someone by moving him from place to place while doing nothing to prevent more incidents, help the victims, or remove the perpetrator. Synagogues are like local, independent churches, and rabbis aren't often media figures like some ministers are. Consequently the news services are less likely to pick up a story about a rabbi hardly anyone knows about. Only 1-2% of the population in the US is Jewish, anyway. The same thing is probably true of many ministers--you don't hear about them.

Not everything you read or hear about Israel in "the media" is positive, either.

Well, looking at online porn is a bit of a step backward from molesting a child... and just fyi, thats what the priests are doing that the rabbi's aren't. I'm an atheist so I have no investment on either side.

Lots of leaders have been caught molesting children or trafficking in kiddie porn. The RCC is such a high profile target that the media can't resist, and they'll go into a frenzy over it. Remember, the USA is a Protestant nation, so there's a lot of hatred for the RCC built into it. Basically, it sells much better than the others, and it's all about the bottom line.

Many reasons- I'll try a few:
1. Anybody can become a rabbi. They are not ordained by god, like Priests claim to be. It's just about going to school.
2. There is no hierarchy of power. The Rabbi doesn't report to a higher rabbi somewhere who's then responsible for his actions.
3. There was is not a world-wide cover-up by a powerful international organization hiding thousands of events.
4. you may think that 90% are just 'allegations' but the Catholic church as paid out over $1.5B so far. good news though, 2006 was a 10 year low in the number of cases reported. A bit under 800 I think.

the issue isn't so much that it happened, but that higher-ups in the church. Bishops and Cardinals knew about it, and let it continue to happen. They covered it up!!!!

Becuase Judaism makes up a tiny percent of the population. The Catholic Church is hated by many in the media -- which is not owned by the Jews.

there were far more incidents of Protestant clergy in Canada who did far more damage than priests in the U.S. But, we as consumers of these newspapers cannot get our fill of trash that we hear. We put out by far the worst and raunchiest movies in all the world, lose more kids to death by guns than any other country and other stuff that we're noted for.

I think when it's priests involved it fascinates people because they think there's a correlation between pedophilia and not getting married.

Of course that's not true at all....one thing has nothing to do with the other.

Everyone loves to bash the Christian's faiths esp. the Catholic church. But say one word against the jews and your being anti-semitic.

I know what you mean but, in a way to me it is just further proof which Church is the true enemy of Satan --- The Catholic Church has done battle with him for such a long period of time, no wonder he is trying everything he can to discredit her.
