Can a capacitor hurt your subs?

Question

Can a capacitor hurt your subs if the subs arent powerful enough? If the subs RMS at 600 watts and the amp does 600 watts RMS, is it a bad idea to get a 1 fared capacitor?

a capacitor just stores energy for when your amp needs it it wouldnt matter if u had a 20f capacitor. you usualy want to get a 1f cap every 1000 watts of power if u want a cap i wouldnt go for a cap tho an extra car battery with a battery isolator is a million times better

The capacitor is hooked up before the amplifier in the power line. All it does is store energy during moments of weak demand of the amplifer and use it during peak demands of the amplifier. This makes a smooth draw from the electrical system, reducing the headlight dimming of big bass hits and such. A capacitor does not affect the amount of power going to your subs/speakers, only allows that power to be more consistant, i would recommend that capacitor, I had heard 1 fared for every 1000 watts, so your 1 fared capacitor would be great for your setup

Adding a capacitor does not turn up the gain control. The amplifier will not play louder or produce more power with a capacitor installed on the power supply. The effect of the capacitor is to help prevent the amp from clipping due to power supply voltage drops on musical peaks.

In other words, it might make the amp sound cleaner; it won't make it louder. Your subs will not be in danger if your amplifier's gain control is set correctly.

the capacitor is used to maintain a even stable amount of power to your amp it real help to keep the low voltages from damaging the amp and takes a bis strain off your cars charging system never a bad idea to add a cap to any system

A capacitor has nothing to do with subs, it's more for power conditioning to the amp than anything.

A cap doesn't give any more power than the alternator does.

This would be a waste of your money. They Do Not do what they are sold for.
Do the Big3 Upgrade instead. E-mail me for more info.

Doing the Big3 Upgrade will serve the purpose caps are marketed for, which don't do.
Light dimming and voltage drops will be a thing of the past when the Big3 Upgrade is done, as long as yout alternator is up to par.

$10 for Big3 supplies, or $100 for a cap that'll just make things worse, Hmmm...

If anything it would keep your amp from clipping which would help protect your speakers, not harm them. Clipping has way more dangerous harmonic distortion components than cleanly amplified audio signal.

For just the addition of a cap to provide enough power to harm your speakers, (assuming the clipping didn't harm them already) you have either chosen too powerful of an amp for the speaker, or not enough speaker for the amp.

The cap is just another power source your amp can use, so that it doesnt have to use the cars battery which can end up running it out really fast and dimming head lights.

DC power caps are intended to supress engine static., and 25000mmfd are used as hum filters. If that thump thump stuff you young people like, is not enough, the amplifiers you are useing need to be replaced with more power full ones wattage wise.

First guess wold be the cap is too small. 1 farad is rated for 1000 watts. So technically your .5 farad cap is only good up to 500 watts.
