Nascar.com has sources stating that this is the speculation and that they will be running Hendrick engines. He has scheduled a press conference from the JR Motorsports race shop. WOW! I think this will catch all of us by surprise.

What ever his decision I'm sticking with him! His step-mom is going to be sorry she didn't relent. And I think Dale Sr is roling over in his grave that his son will not be racing for the team he worked so hard to build.

I'd rather see him go to RCR, even if he still drove the #8 and not the #3............just don't see how he can take JR Motorsports from a single Busch series team to a 2 car cup team and really be ready for the 08 season........... but here is a story that I came across which is the most recent link posted on dalejrpitstop.com

Dale Earnhardt Jr. expected to announce DEI-V-O-R-C-E

NASCAR's most-popular driver envisions free agency in 2008 season

By DAVID POOLE and JIM UTTER / The Charlotte Observer

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is expected to become a high-profile NASCAR free agent Thursday morning after announcing he won’t return to the team founded by his late father for the 2008 NASCAR season.

A news conference is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Mooresville headquarters of JR Motorsports, a team owned by Earnhardt Jr. and run by his sister, Kelley Elledge.

JR Motorsports fields a car in the NASCAR Busch Series, but contrary to reports on Wednesday, Earnhardt Jr. is not expected to announce where he will drive after this year – just that it won’t be at DEI after his contract to drive the No. 8 Chevrolets there expires after this season.

I think he will race his own cars next year, as indicated by the reports. However, I don't think this is a very smart decision as far as championship opportunities are concerned. Granted, he will have Hendrick equipment, but I doubt he will have the technology and racing depth in engineering and crew members. I know Truex Jr is coming with him, but I wonder if Tony Eury Jr. and Tony Eury Sr., as well as, Kevin Mannion are all going to Jr. Motorsports? Also, now that they are going next year, is it time for a merger of DEI and Robert Yates Racing?

For the past couple of years JR Motorsports has been having success on the Busch side. The move to Cup was in making with no time line. With the contract and ownership struggle at D E I the time line moved up.
So yes he will run his own show thru JRM.

Honest answer from a Gordon fan. I think that would be his best decision. If he does go, hes gettin his engines from Hendricks which means he will be a huge threat in 2008. Coupled with a couple of good drivers with him, we will witness an incredible rebound!

Announcement is tomorrow that he wants to be more like Gordon and run Hendrick's chassis and Hendrick's motors. To me that sounds like he wants to be in a Hendrick's car. Maybe Hendrick's can field a fifth car.

Yup, press conference at 11 tomorrow on Speed. Great decision. I'd have rathered he go to RCR, but this is OK. He just needed to get out of DEI, that place was bringing him down.

If this comes true, the Eury's will go with him also without a doubt. I'm sure his pit crew and everyone else will jump ship also. This really caught me off guard, it will be interesting to see what really happens. It could just be a smoke screen. We'll have to wait and see.
