First of all, let me say, this isn't one of those price limit things! I mean within reason of course, but no matter what I need a great gift and I'm coming up blank! Last year, when he turned 1, I got him a two seater wagon with the umbrellas and the attachment on the back for diaper bags or ice chests, etc, along with a family membership to the zoo in our area! (It's still a hit for him!) And his parents bought him a space walk and one of the blow up obstacle courses!
Anyway, I'm very close to him, so you would think it would be easy, but I pick up something for him like anytime I go to a store, so I need a really good and BIG present for his birthday!
He is ALL boy in every sense of the word, he loves outside, swimming, dirt, playing rough, etc! I have to have an AWESOME gift for him! His parents are getting him a Golden Retriever puppy and everything to go with it! So I know I won't be one-upping them, not that it matters!
I am helping with all aspects of the party setup!

Furthermore, and not to sound shallow, because I know it sounds retarded, but it does matter to me, on some level!
I dated my bro-in-laws best friend for quite some time, however, we are now both married to other people, and still have a descent friend reltaionship, die to my sister and her family we have to! Anyway, it has become this competition type thing, he thinks he has to try and outdo me in everything! It drives me insane, and now I have to be certaint ohave the best gift!
Last year he went and got a new present the day of the party so I wouldn't know he was getting him a tricycle! (My present still won for the best though-hehe!) It's aggrivating, because I am his aunt and his Godmother!
I am planning and putting on his party in full, which will be WAY over the the top! (My sister basically hands me the credit card and says take car of it!-So I have an awesome time with it!)

His party is a construction theme! I've even arranged for a dump truck to be there full of dirt for the kids to play in and take pictures with!

What to get him: they have a pool, he already has his own full size space walk and full size obstacle course thingy! He has a 4wheeler that he got for Easter! I mean honestly, he has a million toys right now! I got him his new bedroom bedding for his "big boy" room for Easter!
Any help would be awesome! I'm lost with an idea right now, and I have to have a GREAT present!

------Thanks for the idea of the swing set, but my parents got him one for Christmas, and I got him a playhouse/garage thing! He got a tricycle for last birthday and the horse would probably be broken within about 5 min! He's a boy and is rough at times! I do appreciate all the ideas though!

----Also, I'm sure it's coming, yes he's spoiled (in fact EXTREMELY SPOILED) but he's the only grandchild on either side, and he was born 3 months early and barely lived to leave the hospital so it's a special circumstance! Also, I spoil him alot because I don't have kids and may never be able to, he's my chance! hehe and I love doing it!

My son is turning two this month. We bought him a train table, which came with 115 peices of track, trains, trees, buildings, etc. He has discovered it in the garage a couple of times already (we put a tarp over it, but he somehow manages to pull it off), and is absolutely in awe of the thing! We also took him to A Day Out With Thomas, where the kids get to take a ride on Thomas and they have a bunch of things for the kids to do there. I'll put the link below, if he likes Thomas and/or trains, that would be fun! You could also renew his zoo membership, since he seems to like that a lot (my son was not so thrilled with the zoo, the thing he remembers best was the cow we heard mooing while we were walking to the zoo, which was not at the zoo and we never saw it, but whenever the zoo comes up he mentions the cow).

The other thing my son LOVES is his Sand and Water Activity Center (from Step2, link below). He will sit outside and play with the thing for hours. He loves to shovel the sand into the water, onto himself, into all of our potted plants in the backyard, basically anywhere he can. He drives his cars through the sand and water. It comes with some boats, shovels and pots for playing. It also has an umbrella over the top so they are somewhat shielded from the sun (still need sunscreen, though).

My son's friend (also two this month) loves his trampoline, which is specifically designed for them (link below).

Other than that, they love books! My son's favorites right now are "Kitten's First Full Moon", "Thomas and Percy and the Dragon", "When I Go To The Park" (as well as the Farm, Preschool and Supermarket), and "Railway Rhymes" (a Thomas & Friends book). His friend loves "Where the Wild Things Are" and "We're Going on a Bear Hunt".

Good luck!

A very useful and fun gift for this boy might be one of those wooden playground sets. It would last for years of growing, and it would be just in time for summer. This type of playground can grow with the child, simply by switching out different aspects of it. You could also buy wood chips to place on the ground below it, in order to soften falls.

If that is quite pricey, then a little outdoor playhouse could encourage imaginary play, which is important at that age.

Other ideas:

a big-wheeled tricycle, designed after his favorite cartoon

a Radio Flyer Classic Rock and Bounce Pony, which is getting good reviews

a train set and table for it

group play toys for outside (like a parachute or a tunnel)

books and bookcase (I got this for my kids and I add to it, each holiday)--You could slip a Barnes & Noble or Borders gift certificate in a book like a bookmark, too, so he can he can choose books for himself!

I hope these ideas help.

Geez! He sounds like my boys (yes their spoiled too) but that's what kids are for. My only suggestion would be a trampoline with the safety net on the sides...my boys are 3 and 4 and they love it...since he's two he might be a little young, but mine loved it even at that age...it will last for a long time too...he'll still like it when he's older...I hope this helps...he sounds like a very lucky little guy..I hope he has a great birthday!

Poor kid sounds as if you are trying to buy his love don't you realize life is to short to make children greedy at a young age he is only going to get older you will run out of crap to buy then the kid will realize you stink and won't like you unless you have a gift for him. Give the kid a hug and take him to a park to play with you.
