Get a lawyer to plead it down to a no-points non-moving violation such as defective equipment. The out of pocket cost will be a bit higher than the speeding ticket BUT no points and no insurance rate hit can make it a cheaper option in the long run.

Go to court for your traffic date. Tell them you were in a hurry and made a mistake. Hopefully you don't have an prior tickets and can prove that you have a history of being a safe/courteous driver. Offer to go to a defensive driving class. They'll reduce your points if not reducing the entire ticket.

I went out and bought a new speedometer cable from the local auto parts store. When I went to court I pleaded guilty with an explanation, said my speedometer was broken (which it wasn't), I showed the judge the receipt for the speedometer cable, and said I replaced it myself. I got the fine reduced and no points on my licence. Afterwards I returned the speedometer cable and got a refund.
