I have a Gateway GT 5404 with Vista. I had to use the recovery CD and reinstall Windows after getting a virus. The PC had Microsoft Works 8.5 on it initially, but after using the recovery CD, it is no longer installed. Any idea on how to reinstall it? Or will I have to shell out the money for it. Thanks all.

Also it didn't come with any cd's other than a Viista upgrade cd and the recovery cd, which I thought was strange for a new computer.

Check your D drive to see if it is in the preinstalled programs.

Go to Start>All programs>PC Help and Tools>Applications Recovery>dot Applications Recovery>Highlight the program and install it.

Reinstalling with the recovery CD wiped out all your data, so yes, Works 8.5 will be gone.

You should have Works CDs with your computer somewhere though. If it came with Works, Gateway should have given you the CDs to reinstall it with. Look through the big pack of CDs they give you with the computer.

If Works was something you bought yourself, again, you should have the CDs around somewhere.

If this is a computer you got from somebody else, you'd have to ask them how they put Works on it. If you're sure it was shipped with Works installed and you can't find the CD for it, give Gateway a call, that's something they should have given you.

In XP, there is a place under Start/All Programs/PC Help& Tools/ Software Repair Wizard

Look there or for something similar in Vista....it should be fairly easy.
