Will Jr be driving the Bud car under a different number next season?

the teams are assigned numbers by nascar they dont own them
nascar could give him the 3 1 57 any number they want most likely he wont be in the 8 unless he pays someone alot
also marketing wise he may want a new number lots more sales have to replace all his fans 8 stuff
also its stated in the yahoo article that bud may not go with him they have an opt out in the contract if he leaves dei so he may get a new sponsor too

Nascar owns the numbers, but the teams own the rights to the numbers. Junior can ask for it, but he will have to ask DEI for it, not Nascar. DEI will be able to keep the #8 is they so choose. They would be smart to sell it to Junior because if DEI puts any other driver in the #8, the driver will have a huge burden and cause stress. It's too bad that Nascar doesn't assign the numbers to the drivers so Junior could keep it, or any driver that drives for a few different teams during a year could use the same number all the time. Wouldn't it be cool is Richard Childress would let Junior use the #3 since RCR owns it?

Alan has it right. NO TEAMS OWN THE NUMBERS, only NASCAR OWNS all the numbers. Teams purchase the right to use it. If Jr. wants the number and IF Teresa doesn't put someone in the 8 car next year, Jr. can RENT the number if it isn't already rented.
Trying to make it easy to understand.
oh by the way,
RCR DOESN'T OWN #3 CAR NUMBER EITHER.....So, you can never tell what might be in the future for that number.

He will probably use a different number unless Teresa lets him use the number she will still be able to make money on the merchandise that she still has if he uses that number if she refuses to let him than she will lose all that money and she is a business woman. I have said this before Budweiser is going to sponsor JR as long as he drives why wouldn't they keep sponsoring him NAPA still sponsors Waltrip and he sucks! He is money in the bank.

numbers go with the owners, maybe rcr would give him use of the 3 if teresa wont let him use the 8...nascar owns the numbers but the owners have the right t the numbers thats why teresa never had use of the 3 as rcr kept it

I hope he gets to keep 8 but anyway I clicked on this to try and find out... Seems as if nobody knows for certain?? Gregs111 needs to re-read the article, it plainly states Budweizer is going with Junior. Atleast thats the way I understood it.

Yes, Teresa owns the car number, so Dale will either have to buy it or choose a different one.
