I have a boss that curses people on the job consistantly and I'm tired of it so I'm going to quite. Can she hold my check because i didn't give noticeand what do I do when finding a new job.

It is always convenient to give prior notice, it says a lot, plus you'll be giving some time to your boss to find some replacement. I know that your boss is not the best, but avoid useless confrontation, you're leaving anyway. Be honest, and clear, but don't be defensive, keep matters in the line of respect. Your check should be given to you no matter what, your working hours should be on a record, that's your proof. Your money should be secure, but its always safe to check your employer's contract and get information from the employment department of your country to know you rights as an employee.

ive tried quitting like that before, my mom always talked me into giving a two week notice. which i found eases things. i dont think they can hold your check unless you kept a uniform or something that they want back.

other than that, you should be able to get it.

when your looking for a new job you'll need references, which is why you shouldnt have quit without a 2 weeks notice. :-(

but you'll find a job somewhere, dont worry about it. just dress decent and present yourself in a professional manner and apply apply apply.

p.s. when i took a career class in highschool they told us the following

: never wear black and yellow together to an interview, always wear closed toe shoes, no plunging neck lines, and NEVER badmouth your previous employers, no matter how bad they were.

i usually say, "the commute was too much"

It's much better ettiquette to give notice, even if the reason you give is much more polite than your boss's filthy mouth. The notice can be "I'm going to pursue an opportunity that's a better fit for me." If you possibly can leave on better terms, going to the next job & explaining why you left is much easier.
Leaving jobs is one of those "never burn a bridge" times in your life!

No they can not keep your check it is yours. They can only keep part of your check if you owe the company for something like uniforms you have not turned in. Tell the people when you are looking for another job just like you told us, supervisior was using profane langauge at the employees and you could not keep working under those conditions.

but she may anyway - and then it's up to you to seek action by authorities or by the courts.

it sounds like you haven't quit yet? start a diary of everything she's done and said. seek sympathetic co-workers to do so was well. that can be a big help in pursuing action with your state labor dept.

Can't you just wait it out two weeks? Some companies will let you go early and then you are off the hook. Your next company will look disfavorably upon your lack of notice. Plus you should never burn bridges.

You want a reference from your previous employer to present to your next employer so try to do it right if you can. Give notice and say how much you appreciate the opportunity to work there, blah blah blah. Its all diplomacy but necessary.

No...she can't withhold your money. That's illegal.

Two, she can state in your reference that you didn't give due notice.

I'd leave...but write to the company directors stating why you are leaving to help others.
