On PowerPoint can you get all or most of the pages on the side-smaller and the selected page big in the middle

i mean HOW can you get the pages on the side

Yes.

Click on one of the slides in the side panel, then use the drop down box to choose your zoom percentage (or select "Zoom" from the "Edit" menu). I often squeeze these down to 25%.

Then click on the slide in the main window (I think this is the preview pane), and size this, in exactly the same way. I often zoom to 400%, to do fine detail work, but the pane on the side remains the same size.
