IT was the intent of the 14th Amendment to DENY Citizenship to the offspring of illegals, It was CLEARLY stated by the author of the citizenship clause, Senator Howard Jacob that the mere accident of birth in the United States was NOT sufficient to grant citizenship.

Howard said:

[The 14th amendment] will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers accredited to the government of the United States, but will include every other class of person.

During the reconstruction period following the civil war the view on citizenship was that only children born to American parents owing allegiance to no other foreign power could be declared an American Citizen upon birth on U.S. soil. This is exactly the language of the civil rights bill of 1866: "All persons born in the United States and not subject to any foreign power, excluding Indians not taxed, are hereby declared to be citizens of the United States."

The author of the Fourteenth Amendment, Rep. John A Bingham (OH), responded to the above declaration as follows: "I find no fault with the introductory clause, which is simply declaratory of what is written in the Constitution, that every human being born within the jurisdiction of the United States of parents not owing allegiance to any foreign sovereignty is, in the language of your Constitution itself, a natural born citizen."

Seems pretty clear to me
"of parents not owing allegiance to any foreign sovereignty "

Now where did we get this notion that ANYONE born on US soil is a citizen?

Media story lines go something like this: "Currently the Constitution says that a person born in this country is an American citizen. That's it. No caveats." The problem with these sort of statements other than being plainly false is that it reinforces a falsehood that has become viewed as a almost certain fact through such false assertions over time.

Now go look up the 14th amendment and all of the Supreme Court decisions that pertain to it. See if you can find the one that grants birthright citizenship to the offspring of illegals
Hint: There isn't one

Bottom line is we don't need a bill. The 14th amendment does not grant citizenship to the offspring of illegals despite what the media and the uninformed say.

If both parents are illegal, the child should be illegal, simple as that.

If the parents are deported, the child at this point ends up in the system, where taxes are paying to raise the child. Also, it is not good for the child because it is taken away from the parents. They should be allowed to take their child if deported, but the child is a legal citizen and is forced to stay here.

What "birthright citizenship?" What are you talking about? ILLEGAL aliens have no "birthright" to citizenship! Their kids do, but that is soooooooo wrong.

If you are talking about enforcing the 14th amendment how it was INTENDED - absolutely! It was regarding slavery, NOT ILLEGAL ALIENS!

A resounding YES! Take away that extra magnet for illegal immigration asap!

Incidentally, AveGirl is wrong - the parents ALWAYS have the option of taking their US born children with them when they are deported. Many opt to leave them behind to be supported by the taxpaying citizens.

Yes. I frankly think that illegals are not here 'under jurisdiction of' our law, but in violation of it.

Every EU country and Canada have abolished automatic birthright citizenship. It is simply too subject to abuse in a country that subsidizes education and other services for its poor.

it may be a no brainer. babies belong with their mothers and fathers, era. If the mothers and fathers are deported, the youngster ought to pass with them. there is no longer something "propose" approximately it. I propose illegals are right here of their very own selection, planned regulation-breaking as quickly as they enter, none of them have been vaccinated and extremely some do carry extreme illnesses like tuberculosis and typhoid (without exhibiting indications themselves), a lot of them come right here because of the fact they have broken regulations in Mexico (rape and homicide lined), and that they rip off our social courses. in case you lose your place because of the fact a relative does no longer enable you often paintings (referred to as/visited each and every of the time, etc.) and you lost your activity, do you think of the financial company could evaluate repossession "propose?" under no circumstances, it may be your accountability to locate an lodging to the undertaking on your existence. Do you enable hundreds of thousands of human beings to abuse systems, that are relatively sturdy if used wisely, to the element that it endangers the rustic? No. Do you enable your man or woman constituency to be uncovered to one/3-worldwide illnesses? No.

"The Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution (Amendment XIV) is one of the post-Civil War amendments (known as the Reconstruction Amendments), intended to secure rights for former slaves.

The following persons born in the United States are explicitly citizens:
* Children born to US citizens;
* Children born to aliens who are lawfully inside the United States (resident or visitor), with the intention of amicably interacting with its people and obeying its laws."
