I'm doing a report on commercials shown during children's programming. I'm looking for other thoughts on the matter.

How do you think TV commercials have changed?
Are they child appropriate?

I watched some programs and counted how many commercials where shown and the content of the commercials and was surprised that some shows had more minutes in commercials than what was in the show!

What do you think about on this matter?

Thanks a BUNCH already!

That's one of the major reasons we only let our son watch Playhouse Disney. There are no commercial breaks during the shows, and between shows there are just cartoon shorts and music.

The few times he's watched other channels (like Nickelodeon) and he's seen the toy commercials, all I hear is "Mommy, I don't have that, maybe we should get it for me."

We do not have cable and the kids only see videos or KidsCBC (programming for preschool aged children with no commercials)..

Advertising - including that which is on when most children's programming is on - continues to push the envelope. I'm no prude, but I am offended by some of the advertisements that are on television and I certainly don't want my children to see them.

Also, just the amount of advertising per programming hour has increased. And there comes a time when the sheer volume is offensive.

it is awful. They have changed and are not appropriate for children. I am not even that strick either. They promote sex, drugs, cigerettes, drinking, and telling u, u need to be a certain way or look a certain way. Its terrible. Even on normal channels, like fox or lifetime. I hear them saying "*****, ****, etc" and not even bleaped out. And 1/2 naked women dancing around for victorias secrets commerials and haynes. Its bad.
