Does anyone know of a good, durable training tire? Winter is nearly upon us in Australia and i was looking for ideas on winter tires. i have tried Vittoria's and Specialized and have found that they are good for racing but not so good for training or riding in the wet.

Has anyone had any experience with Conti Gatorskins?

Thanks and keep on cycling!!

the Continental gator skins would be a great choice, they last for ever and hold up on the trainer when riding indoors, i also have experience with the specialized armadillos, i think that's what they are, there puncture resistant and give you that extra weight for a better training period. i have not tried the specialized tire but i have installed them many times(not too much fun if you go with the steel bead)

I've had great luck over the past ten years with the Panaracer Stradius. I commute and race on them. They wear extremely well seem to not flat nearly as much as others, and when pumped up to their max pressure rating of 125 PSI, make an excellent and stable race tire.

I love Vredestein forezzas (SE). I've been using them for years with only one flat, biking an average of 120 miles a week during the winter. they also don't seem to wear down as fast as other models.
performance bike. com usually has them on sale for ~$23.00 ea. so it shouldn't hurt your wallet.

one tire to stay away from is the michelin pro race tires- they scar and cut up after a few hundred miles.

I"ve had great success with the series of Continental Gran Prix tires. I've been riding them all year round for everything and have very few complaints.

Seriously look at Michelin (cant remember name). Continental tyres have always been a good choice as well. For cross country mtb racing specialzed are hard to beat.

Hey bulldog, this is Lance Armstrong, and I'm just saying that you should use Dunlop tyres, they may seem cheap and nasty but they're really durable.
