Unfortunately you can't recharge non rechargeable batteries. You should just buy the rechargeable ones with a charger and hide it. They are not expensive. What she doesn't know wont her. I'm sure there are a lot worse things you could be hiding than rechargeable batteries.

The batteries probably blew up because you had the wrong type of charger - there's two types of rechargeable batteries and they charge differently at different speeds and different voltages.
The freezer only PRESERVES live batteries.
Now, THIS is very dangerous, and I've never done it, nor will I, but I heard from this cable guy that if you take an old lamp cord, and plug it in with the wires exposed, and then touch the ends of the wires to the two ends of the battery for no more than one second, you can recharge the battery instantly. Now, you CAN overheat that battery AND get sprayed with super-heated battery acid. So basically what I'm saying is; bring up the issue with your Mom again and get the right charger - it should have a switch to handle both types of batteries.

NO!!!!!
Do not attempt to recharge non-rechargable batteries. Recharging non-rechargable batteries will cause them to explode, possibly causing injury.
Its the refridgerator not the freezer (freezer is too cold), and that won't recharge the batteries just keep the charge they have longer.
All the myths of recharging batteries like applying any form of heat to them are not sufficient for a camera. They are handy tricks if you are lost in the woods and your batteries on your flashlight die, but a camera draws a lot more wattage.

As far as I know, once regular batteries are empty they're empty. In my experience however I've kept around AAA batteries from my mp3 player that have run out, and after a while they still play music for about an hour. I don't know if this helps at all. Also on you camera, try to look for an energy saving mode. Good luck.
Warning! Don't put regular batteries into a charger for rechargeable batteries, as they could blow up!

a non rechargable battery can not safely be recharged. They're different chemical composition, lithium or alcaline. The freezer method only helps them retain their charge longer when not in use. If you try to recharge a non-rechargable battery it will overheat and most likely "explode" even tho an exploding battery only really means a lack of the internal acids, it's still not safe.

you cant recharge a none rechargeable battery,if you try to do it,it may explode or leak.some years ago they had a device that they claim could recharge alkaline batteries,i bought it for about 50$ and it didn't work.they don't sell those things anymore because it don't work.if your camera have a port that you could hook up a power cord then you could use it with the power cord attached, the only problem would be that you wont be able to go too far with the cord attached.

Put them out in the sun, they'll recharge up a bit. I just bought some rechargables from BJ's and they are so good, they last forever without having to recharge. I suggest you invest in a set.
