I have a 2001 Hyundia Elantra with 65,000 miles. Are there any common problems i should know about. (changed timing at 60k)

You should know to ignore the first poster, obviously he's a Japanese spokesmen. Anyway, yes you will definitely want to continue following all of the maintenance requirements. There were 3 recalls items found on the 2001 Elantra, please check the link.

Yes.
Hyundai's reliability is rediculously poor.
You should opt to purchase a Honda, Acura, Toyota, Lexus, anything else but hyundai.
