They don't study the history or origins of Christianity because they are brainwashed from infancy to be ignorant about it. Many churches (of many, many different denominations) use the King James bible and say it's the literal word of their god, so their members are brainwashed to think it's the only book ever written about Christianity.
It's not, and there are mistranslations and misinterpretations throughout it. For instance, "Thou shalt not suffer a Witch to live" was originally something like "Thou shalt not suffer a Poisoner to live." But King James, while his translaters were working on translating the bible from Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, and such, had a near death experience involving rough seas and three real Witches in Scotland. He ordered the change from poisoner to Witch in that Passage, and it seems he had quite a say in other mistranslations as well.
Thus, today most Christians are misinformed about their own religion and it's history and origins. And one more thing. I've had Christians tell me "We are all the Children of God." They didn't mean me, of course. They were talking about how born again Christians are the Children of God. So, how is it that Jesus was supposedly his only son? And I've read a translation of the Talmud where it says all the Jews are the Children of God, so what's up with that?

For thee same reason that most Americans don't know 1 What is and is not in the Constitution or the Bill of Rights.
2. Who represents them in Government
3. What is and is not the job of the members of the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of our government.
Basically most people only believe what others (TV, Movies, politicians and celebrities tell them is true and are too lazy to research the foundations, legitimacy, or roots of their beliefs. For instance Christianity was not originated in Paganism. It originated, according to their "Holy Literature", in Judaism and the Jewish belief that a messiah would come. Christians believe the the late J. Christ of biblical fame was that messiah. Jews believe, if anything Christ was only a prophet. The first belief in monotheism was in Egypt but that religion was overthrown again and the Egyptians went back to polytheism. I believe you mean that many of the holidays and "Saints" originated when the Holy Roman Church decided to make it easier to sell the whole religion thing in formally pagan countries after the 8th Century AD or CE for those that prefer the newer/ PC term.

To be technical, Christianity did not evolve from paganism but it did in fact adopt many pagan elements. Christianity is based more on the teachings of Jesus, the writings of early Christians, and Jewish tradition. While Christianity was growing throughout the Roman Empire and beyond, it began to incorporate lots of pagan traditions and some even incorporated by the Church on purpose. And many newly converted pagans still kept some of their traditional customs. Many missionaries would also use pagan symbols and lore and give them a Christian bend to better convert them.

You should read "The Case For Christ" by Lee Strobel. It was written by an athiest who tried to prove Jesus wasn't the man He said He was. He later found evidence that Jesus was the son of God and then became a Christian. I am telling you, there were some HARD questions he asked! There are also philosophers from the past who wrote about how Jesus is God. People can do research, but must be careful not to read false information about Jesus.
So the book is great for peolpe here who are just interested.

How could christians know the origin of their faith? They are so confused in the what is jewish and what is christian. You talk bad about noah and the arc myth, they will tell you that Noah wasn't a christian. But then they will read from the book of Genisis about how god supposedly created the universe. They only pick and choose what is important, they refuse to accept everything, and until they know the full story and accept the good and the bad, they will never know.

I think that we should all pause, take a deep breath, and realize 2 things:
1. A sizable percent of members of *every* religion does not know about the origins/details of their religion.
2. Again, *every* religion has roots in some other religion. (Except perhaps the earliest form of, get ready for it... early people's paganism.)
So really, the point is kinda moot.

In the end, of course, all spiritualities are not about truth, but about need. *shrug* People will always look for answers to the "big questions" and accept the ones that best fit their own insecurities. Xtianity has been selling "life sucks, but the afterlife will settle all scores" for two millennia now. I don't expect to see an end to it soon.

Many Christians have a strong anti-intellectual bent. If it involves reading or study outside the narrow scope of schlock contemporary feel good Christians authors (Max Lucado, Tim Lahey, etc) they skip it and call it satanic.

Christian is based more in Eastern philosophy and Paganism than the average lay person knows.
But that's fine, each religion is one's own path to the same One True God of All in All. I accept, in fact I appreciate, the Eastern roots of Christianity, as seeing it from that point of view finally enlivened my spirit enough to search until I found the Kingdom of God within me, just as Jesus Christ says it is.
Know yourself, know Jesus Christ, and you will know God!

You know all those weird ideas about us Christians originating from paganism are totally illogical, right? We can prove, not just throught the Bible, that Jesus existed and that He is God. Got it?
