I am an American citizen applying for Canadian perment residency so I need a police certificate from the state of California. I went to the website (http://ag.ca.gov/fingerprints/index.php) and it said that I need to provide the fingerprint card, fee and the request letter I received from immigration Canada. I called the bureau at the number from the website and it had a recording which said I need to have special forms mailed to me.

Can I get the police certificate by just sending the fingerprint card, fee and request letter from immigration Canada or do I need to submit the request using the forms from the California Department of Justice?

I can't leave Canada until my residency status is confirmed. They confirmed my identity at the Canadian police station where I got my fingerprints taken, so they will know the fingerprints are mine. I just need to know what else I need with the fingerprints and fee when I send them to California in order to get my police clearance.

You need to go to the Police headquarters for your fingerprints so that they will know that the prints belongs to you.
