I live in Northern NY and it is not rare to see signs in both french and English. Also when I purchase things they may have both French and English directions on it. But when they added spanish people all of a sudden get pissy about it. they say if you are in America you have to learn the language bs and what not. I agree that when in the USA it is best to learn English, but when people have a double standard when it comes to French Speakers and Spanish Speakers. BTW the reason many things have other languages on it is because these same products are sold in Canada as well as mexico. Also same goes for when calling a help hotline. Most of this was created because of NAFTA.

Before people say it I know I spelled Sign incorrectly. That is my mistake please do not detract from the question though.

Most of these dual and tri label products are made the same batteries you buy in the US are being sold in Canada and Mexico. If you go to canada and Mexico you will see the same exact package.

when I used to live in europe, i would see many languages at once, and it was not surprising. I was actually happy that we live in such a global society. Yet in the unites states, people would rather build a wall and breed a homogenious race.

People become more and more ignorant of others.

language is a tool of marketing too. so when you read a label in 3 different languages, that means the company seeking market in those three races.

there's no need to be racist and hateful. It's easy to throw blame to others. try to look things from other point of view and learn to become more considerate of others, then this world we are living in will become more pleasant place to live in.

NAFTA is an agreement between Canada, USA and Mexico, the agreement has bring positive impact for the three of them, in different areas. If the agreements is as bad as the others has described, it will be appealed by the members.

People get mad because Canadians and everyone else are not invading our country, living off our hard earned money that goes to taxes.

Mexicans come here illegally, breaking laws by committing even more crimes when they are here (murder, DWI, drugs, rape, etc). They try and demand rights that they dont have, trying to live off our tax money, closing down our hospitals because they dont have insurance, and at the same time dont know a word of English.

We speak English in the US, we are raised on that language. Why should we have products that are fully Spanish (have seen it in stores), be denied a job becuase we arent bilingual, try to figure out what a Mexican is ordering because they dont speak a word of English?

How do they BENEFIT us in the first place? Anyone who supports the people who step foot in our country breaks a law, and since they arent citizens-they should get deported.

Go to another country and break a few laws, Im sure they'll tell you to get out.

Upstate New York is very close to the French speaking section of Canada. This is their native tongue in Montreal.

There is NO Spanish speaking country anywhere near upstate New York. The Spanish subtitles are for the convenience of Spanish speaking people who refuse to learn English.

One is friendly consideration, the other is basic PC-101.

Its because they can't read what the other language says.
Maybe it really says something else.

I actually had a patient ask me if we had something different written on a sign at our hospital for "foreigners". Sign says the same thing for everyone. I couldn't afford to lose my job over the nasty response that was on the tip of my tongue.

If thats all it takes for someone to get into a pissy mood...there really is not much else to say. They are people that will never be happy about anything, and I would suggest that they are horribly racist. Other languages are there to provide ease of use or assistance to ALL purchasers...not just the precious English only few...

What pisses me off here in South Texas is going to the store to buy a bottle of shampoo and not knowing what in the heck I am purchasing because ALL OF THE BOTTLES ARE IN SPANISH!!! Not a single word on the label in English. Oh...and nothing but Mexican music being played on the PA system. This was in a WalMart!
When my European ancestors came to this country, they learned English and were proud of their accomplishment. They did not march in protest and demand they be accommodated.

Oh..and for those who would call me a racist? One half of my family is of Hispanic origin. Guess what? They all speak English fluently as well!

Because we speak English in the U.S.A, not French, Spanish, German, or any other language. If you want to come here, learn to speak English. If you want to go to France then learn french, or Spanish if you go to Mexico. This is the United States and we speak English. I am tired of calling numbers and hearing:
"Please press 1 if you want to hear this in English. Press 2 for Spanish."
I find it insulting to myself and all of my fellow citizens.

If you want to be in America, learn English. Around the borders is a little different, but where I live in Massachusetts, there is no reason for dual-language products.

Signs should be in English only... as for labels on products, if they are sold in other places, then so be it.
