Someone had posted a sign about that at work....but I didn't know how serious it was. They really should make a website that people can link onto messages or visit to sign up saying they won't buy gas.

I'm not going to. (Mostly, because my car runs for nearly a month on one tank....but I really like the boycott idea too!)

It's been done before, many times. The people who don't need gas don't buy gas. The ones who are running out do. And the ones who didn't run out on Tuesday can buy on Wednesday without feeling guilty. And Captain Exxon twirls his mustache and laughs. It's pointless. The only way to reduce gas prices is for everyone to use less gas, period. Of course that would mean lifestyle changes so it won't happen until gas become simply unaffordable. So people continue to make meaningless gestures, like that one where you buy, but only a few gallons at a time. (All that means is more trips to the gas station.) If you want to make a difference, figure out how to ditch the car.

Think about it dear...just think. Do you really think it will make a difference if everyone buys their gas on the 14th or the 16th instead of on the 15th??

Truth is, this is a scam - check Snopes.com to see for yourself. It will accomplish absolutely nothing. We need to stop using so much gas - not have a gas buy-out for one day. That just shifts the profits to a different day, and actually ends up hurting the little man - the service station operators, who have no choice as to what they charge for gas, as they operate in tiny profit margins....

So, no, I will not be in on this SCAM to not buy gas.

That boycott has been tried before. It wasn't successful before and it wont be successufl now. What difference is it if I fill my tank up the day before or day after? I still bought gas.

The outrage and the activism should not be aimed at oil companies. They have a product in demand and have the right to charge whatever price they want. What will work is doing something about the dependency on oil. We need to be active in demanding that our government supports research for alternative sources of energy. They need to offer tax incentives for people actually becoming less energy dependent like they did in the 1970's when people could, on their tax returns, write off some of the cost of insulating homes and installing new, energy saving windows. I'd love to heat my home with geothermal heat. I'd love to build a windmill. I'd love to install solor panels on my roof. But the cost of those things does not pay off in savings. A tax credit would certainly help convince me to go ahead with it.

We need to insist that our government regulates higher fuel efficiency in our vehicles. I know they do it already but they could demand soooo much more. And they won't demand the fuel efficiency which is very possible as long as we continue to buy vehicles without regard to fuel effieciency.

You want to boycot someone? Boycot polluters of the environment. Or boycot compaines who take their companies and JOBS overseas instead of employing American workers. Boycot companies who do not offer health benefits. Boycot pet food companies for producing feed unfit for animals (even before these recent recalls.... REALLY, the most popular brands of dog food aren't worth the bag they come in).

Anyhow. boycotting gasoline stations for one day will do nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Boycott on gas prices? Isn't that silly? I mean prices are determined by market value right?

Boycotting for exploitation of resources in 3rd world countries like Nigeria, I see the point. This has no point.

what happens if they can't pay their oil field workers or the grocers or the doctors..it may make them go bankrupt and then we really would be in a bind.
I don't drive very much and i won't buy on the 15th if I can help it.
I just hope the economy can take the hit.

Nope, I won't buy any gas.
I usually just take an extra serving of brown beans.

People's gotta work, drive school buses, ambulances, whatever.
I just don't think it will work well unless everyone declares it all around and does it. I will try to remember to reduce the amount that day if possible. I starred it.
