i have many friends who are different religions buhddist, jewish, christian, shamanism, hindu and muslim. im agnostic and i have a love to argue and try and make the others point void.
i was once arguing about the exsistence of god and after a while my friend pointed out "why question me because i am happy with my connection to god whether being true or false and i dont see how it is hurting anyone".
i soon realised he had a point. so here is my question. why question religion apart from for an interesting conversation.

Because not everyone is content with merely a personal connection to god. It is when they start trying to force god on other people that I take issue. For example, prayers in schools, the teaching of ID, the inability of atheists to hold public office in some states...
If you are truly open-minded, I would suggest reading "God is not Great" by Christopher Hitchens. He presents very intelligent, well researched arguments.

I really do not know, some people apparently feel that they may effect a change in someone's beliefs. I do not mind serious debate with others or even light banter. Regardless, I do not expect that anything I say will change someone's beliefs that they feel are right and they are happy with. I do like to learn about what others believe.

Because religion is an abuse of the only ability that distinguises you from the family cat -- the ability to think rationally, and apply logic to evidence to draw correct conclusions. Like any skill, this is an ability which must be practiced to be kept sharp.

I think everyone wants to be right. Instead of just being peaceful. Live and let live is what I say. People make all these ridiculous reasoning for bashing, It's very amusing.

All throughout history religion has hampered scientific progress, persecuted people, taught intolerance, started wars, eroded personal freedom, etc.
I argue against it for the sake of humanity, for my sake. Our species survival is becoming more and more dependent upon people living in reality. We need to fix the damage we have done to the environment (not accept it as the will of god). We need to keep weapons of mass destruction out of the hands of fanatics (of all faiths). We need to focus on and increase our understanding of genetics (paralysis, cancer, diabetes, heart disease).
We don't need religion, we need to grow up!

great question, because as humans we love to judge others and play the "I'm better than you are game." if we all pointed that finger in instead of out.....wow what a different world we would live in.

Because, there are people who want information on here. You just have to sort through the idiots to get to the intelligent people. (I'm not claiming to be one. I have my moments, but I'm nowhere near perfect.)
And, some people think I need "saving".
