Look at the divorce rate of unarranged marriages. I'm sure you know plenty of people who fall in love too quickly, fall in love with the wrong type of people all the time, make stupid decisions, get married and divorced on whims. People think just because they are in "love" that they will have a good marriage, and that's why so many marriages fall apart. They don't realize that love is only one part of the equation - there is so much more that goes into a good marriage.
That's an advantage of arranged marriages - "love" and emotions are taken out of it. Instead, the parents and other important members (including the people getting married) look at other factors of compatibility. That's why if you talk to people in arranged marriages, while they may not go through the throes of passion that you read about in romance novels, they are generally happy because they are married to someone who they are compatible with, which allows them to start off with a friendship and then build to love.
That's of course not to say all arranged marriages are great (just as there are plenty of happy unarranged marriages too!). But don't be ready to dismiss arranged marriages as a ridiculous antiquated concept. I actually see a lot of sense in it - more so when I see my friends make stupid dating decisions based on their emotions! :)

Well, in my opinion, I don't think there is any advantage at all. Unless you're an extremely horrible and cold hearted person who doesn't want to care for the person they intend to spend their life with. Everything with an arranged marriage is a disadvantage.
Marriage is a unity between two people who dearly love, care, and trust one another. Marrying a stranger is obviously none of those things.
Best of luck.

According to the people who have actually had an arranged marriage, they were pleasantly surprised at how well their parents picked the one for them. Usually your parents know what you are like since they have known you all of your life, and they are more likely to be objective & more mature minded about who is best for you.
If you pick your own mate, then often a young person will fall in love with superficial traits, like looks, and ignore the personality traits that are the most important for a lasting relationship.
Also, in an arranged marriage, the entire family has some say, so it is more likely that your spouse will get along with his or her in-laws, since they picked him/her.

advantages- You know who you are going to marry. none of the bad dating issues, no need to strut your stuff at the bar, get drunk and forget who you walk up next to in the morning. your family knows the person, you know your inlaws,
disadvantages- You hate the person, if he was the last one alive you would not want to be in the same room with, must less share a last name iwth. You know your inlaws, and think they are just fruitcakes. your spouse forgets how treat a member of the opposite gender.
what would be nice is maybe given a choice of 3 like the dating game, and make a choice that way, that is if countries still wanted to have arranged marriages.
