The 460, as others have said, is a very good engine. One of the best things about this engine is that you can stroke it to produce in excess of 550 cubic inches.

Be careful when selecting an engine, however. Some of the engines, which is documented by Ford, came with a 7 degree retarded crank sprocket. See the source listed below.
Lastly, if you plan on buzzing the engine, make sure you modify the head studs. As in any engine, power is always found in the head work suited to your application. Also, in any performance engine, ensure you have a high performance oil pump. This insurance is often overlooked in a performance engine until it is too late.

I can't believe you are having trouble finding these gaskets. 429+460's took the same gaskets for the valve covers. I can't remember for sure but I think 71 lincolns had the 429 and the 460 came later. Try looking for gaskets for a 71 429. Don't want to tic ya off but I would just go to my garage and grab some. I have 3 or 4 sets of these gaskets on hand because I have an old truck I put a 71 mercury 429 in and had one just like it on my hot rod pulling tractor. I'd almost bet you have a 429 and you are looking for gaskets for a 71 460 which may not have existed because the 460 is the same engine with a longer stroke so basically the only difference is the crankshaft. It is highly they would have made both engines at the same time and I am positive my 429 is a 71 because I bought the car just to get the big block for my truck.

The 460 does not have any specific problems, it is a good engine which is why Ford used it for 30 years.

Using it is a mud truck would be great. Good low end torque and plenty of HP.

Just be sure you put a rev limiter on it. Don't want to blow it up during a meet.

They were pretty good motors and Ford had them in a bunch of cars. Good luck with the project.
