I have a cat who does nothing but day dream about the outdoors and look through the window. I dont want her to be an outside cat because what happens if someone takes her or she gets hit by a car. But i also would like her to enjoy the outdoors sometimes. So do you just put your cat on a leash like a dog?

this may sound weird but my neighbor puts her indoor cat on a tether every now and then, personally i think you should either keep the cat inside or outside. walking a cat just seems wrong.

My boy cat Dakota is the same way, but seems how I live on a busy street i'm sure not going to let him be an outdoor cat!!! This worried me for a while and I felt really bad because he loves it when I take him outside, so I put him on a leash every once and a while and take him outside, and while he isn't too fond of the leash, he loves being outdoors so I guess that balances out in his mind. Just be careful if your cat starts to fight you with the leash because you don't want her to get hurt, so if she starts to fight pick her up and calm her down, or take her inside and off the leash until she quiets down. Also, they sell cat harnesses, I would recommend getting one of those, I am looking into it and am going to be getting one in the near future. Hope this helps!!!

We dont want our cat to be an outside cat because of the same reasons as you and we have already lost her once for letting her out and we dont want that to happen again. So now we put her on a leash. I know it may look funny but hey at least i am not going to be the one who lost there cat or it got ran over or ect. So i think it is ok to walk your cat on a leash.

My cat Cleo was an outdoor cat while I lived at my father's house growing up, because he had a big yard. Then I moved to an apartment and she had to stay indoors. I knew she wanted to go outside, though, so I bought her a kitty harness and leash, and we walked outside almost every day! Don't expect it to be like walking a dog. Your cat may not ever like or get used to the harness. Cleo didn't like the harness, but she would tolerate it once she was outside and could sniff the grass and roll in the flowers.

I used to live in a small town and thought it would be nice if I walked the cat (with a leash on). They certainly don't walk as good as a dog. She more or less just walked in circles. I finally just picked her up and went for a walk holding her. I believe that all cats stare outside. Mine is always in the front window. You can also leave your drapes open so that your cat can "sunbathe." You could try a walk and see if she likes it. At least you'll know.

I have tried walking my cat on a leash, and she just lays down. Was actually pretty funny. I have seen these tunnels that you can buy to put outside, for the cats to run in. Maybe try something like that, so she won't get away.

No u can walk your cat with a harness then attach the harness to a leash or else the leash will choke them
My cat longs for being outside too.
but u need to know that walking a cat requires patience they tend to wander off into the bushes.

My kitten is an inside cat. I have a harness for her and a leash so I can take her outside. It's safer than just letting her roam around and maybe get in the highway. Just make sure you have a leash that's long enough your kitten and pounce and play.

First of all, thank you for being responsible and for wanting the best for your kitty. :)

I had a friend who rescued an older stray and it eventually took to being walked every night with a leash and harness. No problems. Sometimes a harness can be uncomfortable and they can often wiggle free, so make sure you try it out around the house first.

If that doesn't work, maybe putting kitty in an open air cage and taking a trip to the park early when no one is around with their dog, would make her happy. She could at least smell things and feel the grass on her paws while being safe.

P.S. Make sure she has all her tags on her collar just in case she gets loose.

i have a harness for my cat, but he hates wearing it, and jsut rolls around on his back when its on! it takes a lot of time and effort to get a cat, especially an older one to become accustomed to it. However, they can still escape from them, so you must be very careful! I have the kind that fits across the chest, between the front legs, and another strap around the midsection. It looks impossible to get out of, and even had my vet adjust it to fit properly. He was ouside with the harness on, and then the neighbor slammed the basement door, scaring my cat to death! he panicked and in a lightning quick single motion he removed all his limbs and neck from it. he was about to bolt into the street! just letting you know the possibilities

I did this, and my cat was practically famous in our neighborhood! He walked on a leash just as pretty as you please...I even walked him on a leash at an Indian pow-wow, mingling through all the craft booths.

Give it a try!
