The doctrine of the Trinity is the result of continuous exploration by the church of the biblical data, argued in debate and treatises.[1] It was expressed in early writings from the beginning of the second century forward.[1] The First Council of Nicaea in 325 AD established a nearly universal Trinitarian dogma and expressly rejected any heresies.

Being a former Catholic, and born-again of spirit and water in Jesus' name, I believe the Holy Spirit is not the newer one. The Holy Spirit has been around since Old Testament, with much scripture supporting the notion of God's Spirit. This information was cognizant before the trinity was introduced through the Council of Nicea (~AD 325?). So it appears, the trinity is a newer concept historically, over the scripturally proven concept of the Holy Spirit.

The creation account in Genesis speaks of God's active force moving to and fro over the waters of the Earth- that's the first reference to the Holy Spirit.
The concept of the trinity itself, however, was not introduced into Christianity until the rule of Constantine and his paganization of Christianity to encourage converts.
That's why the trinity is a false doctrine that true Christians and anyone who actually reads the Bible promptly reject.

It's not quite new, lol...some refer to it as just the "spirit" and some the "holy ghost" and its all over the Bible. It's the part of God inside of us. The Trinity is very controversial, even among Christians...but not because of a "new concept".

1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Gen 1:1-2 (KJV)
Lets see by old earth standards that makes the Holy Spirit what, 45 billion years old?

Read the book of Genesis. Abraham greets the 3 men and calls them "Lord" in the singular form. The Holy Spirit is mentioned by Christ in his ministry a lot too.

people who deny the trinity & deny the Holy Spirit only don't comprehend their Bibles. So then we arise with that the Holy Spirit isn't God?? I very much debate that one. Or can we are saying that Jehovah isn't God?? or that Jehovah and Jesus are the comparable person, which the Bible of course shows Jesus talking to his Father. the only answer is 3 persons = one God, there is not any longer different lifestyles like answer. to declare that Jesus is the only authentic God, then denies Jehovah & the Holy Spirit as being God. Jesus spoke that the Holy Spirit could be our comforter & that HE could instruction manual us. P

Jesus told His disciples of a Comforter who would come after He Himself ascended into Heaven--He also called Him the Spirit of Truth. The concept is not new.

The Holy Spirit was present at Creation.
How do you figure that it is a "new concept"?

The trinity as a whole was introduced to 'Chrisitanity' with the Council of Nicea during the time of Constantine.
It was adopted by popular demand, it's not a biblical teaching.
