Ok, well since you say the steroids are doctor prescribed for a health condition, I'll skip the non-steroid comments.

The easiest way to speed up your metabolism is eating properly and doing something, exercise wise.

If you have little energy, then you are going to need to get over the mental block you have set up for yourself during your bouts of low energy. Start small. Go for a walk and do it 3x a week for 30 minutes. You'll be surprised how, after only a few weeks, your energy levels will go up. After a few weeks, do the same walk, but increase the speed. Force yourself to move quicker. Take the stairs. Take the long way around if walking. If your class is down one hall and you can get to it via another hall which is longer, take that one. Do anything you can to add fitness to your routine.

As for eating, if your parents purchase unhealthy items, work with them to switch out a few of them for healthier options which cost the same. If you purchase wheat-thins, instead purchase reduced-fat wheat thins. If they purchase regular soda, try diet. If you don't like diet, then reduce the number of sodas you have. If they purchase bacon, ask them to get turkey bacon. Work with the alternatives that cost the same but provide less calories. If they are resistant to change, then change your diet. Only eat the healthiest of the things your parents purchase. Make sure that you divide your meals into 5 or 6 small meals instead of large meals. Skip the bad snacks in the middle. Increasing the number of times you eat each day while still consuming the same food is the best way to energize your metabolism. If you are unsure on how to do that, take what you had for breakfast and divide it into 2. Eat 1/2 of it for breakfast and the other half a few hours later. Do the same for lunch. Then eat dinner normally... or even split that in 2 and eat 1/2 of it an hour or so later. This will take some significant getting used to but your metabolism will definitely increase. Along with added steps, you'll boost everything.

Also, if you can afford it, purchase a pedometer. You can get them for very little money at a sporting goods store. Once you hook it up to your walking style, you can wear it every day. Write down how many steps you take. Try to add 10-20 additional steps each day. Keep a log of this and try to improve. Having a pedometer makes many people really try to beat the previous day and that will only cause you to walk more.

Finally, write everything down. Write when you ate, what you ate, how much, how much walking you did, your energy levels, where you walked and your overall mood. You'd be surprised at how much you pay attention and are more interested in sticking with a plan when you see your progress and status on a piece of paper.

I too am 5'10. Tae Bo or even just walking everyday for 30 min will do the trick. But aside from exercise do u like spicy foods? Different studies have proven that spicy foods can increase your metabolism by 8-to-20% for at least 30 minutes after eating them and you don't have to eat a whole lot of spicy foods. Just add a little bit of Cayenne pepper, curry, jalapenos or green chili to your favorite recipes. Also, according to a study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Green tea helps you burn 35-to-43% more calories a day. It's true, If I want to lose a quick 5 lbs I'll do nothing different but drink green tea.

The best way I can think of at this time without knowing you is, Stay off the STEROIDS!!! Eat small meals 5 - 6 X a day and plenty of water.... This will speed up you metabolism and flush fat from you system as quickly as your body releases it... LOTS of water... When you are eating healthy in smaller portions you will find you will actually start to lose weight.... When you have energy again.. start working out with weights again... you want LEAN muscle to help continue to keep the weight off.

Why are you taking steroids? That is dangerous. You can't just stop taking them. Did you know that? You really need a doctor's care now. You have gone too far with medicating yourself and you could be in trouble.
Just lift weights and run, both will increase your metabolism. But not until you are off of those things.
Why does everyone think they can fix things by popping something in their mouthes?
I am serious. Get a doctor's help to get you off steroids.

Good food
Good exercize
Good mindset.

Anything that puts on muscles raises caloric consumption.
Avoid unnatural biochemical mods, like steroids or anphedimines. These tend to gum up the works.
