long answer: 720x480 is the standard for digital video. It will turn out to be very close to the same quality as televison. Most cameras with higher resolutions use the extra pixels to take digital photos. so yes, your camcorder will be fine, the pixel count in the actual video will be the same as any other camera.

720 horizontal by 480 vertical pixels is the world standard for digital video established long before the US decided to put digital TV on the air with a contrary pattern to satisfy Bill Gates requirement for 'square pixels'.
camcorders with higher resolution are HD and that brings up a whole lot of additional problems for you to consider.
