What to do in North Carolina?

What does NC have to offer thats exciting or any nearby counties? Im helping my brother out and try and plan something special for his soon to be wife, she is at Fort Bragg and he is here at Ft Hood. What is their to do? Is their any beaches,lakes nearby? Anything will help. THANKS
