You can take antihistamines, or get allergy shots. Some cats are less allergenic than others, so maybe you could try being around a few different ones to see if there are any you can tolerate. A rescue organization might be a good place to start. Check out the ones in foster care so that you can see them one at a time, not a whole shelter full of them which would probably overwhelm your allergies. Getting one that won't sleep on your bed could be a problem, but maybe you could deal with that by washing your bedcovers frequently. And if you adopt one which you end up not being able to keep, they would take it back.

I have cat allergies as well and live with a cat. The best you can do outside of medication is to keep away from the cat. Keep him out of the room you will be sleeping in. Vacuum and dust regularly. There are sprays and wipes that you can get from a pet store or vet to use on the animal to lessen the amount of dander getting about. Brushing the cat regularly will also help. Some cats actually enjoy it.
Good luck.

I too am very allerigic to cats, and am the proud owner of 2! After I am around a new cat for about a week, my immune system gets used to it and I don't react to it any longer. Amazing the human body! But, when I got to visit a family member that has a different cat, my allergies go crazy. I know this happens to other people too, and I hope you are on the lucky ones that has a system that adapts to any cats surrounding it.
Good luck! :)

Bathe the cat. You can use plain water or just rub the cat down with a wet towel. It greatly reduces the dander which is what people are allergic to. The cat will get used to it, but don't expect him to like it too much!

I am the same way. It depends on how bad your allergies are. If they are mild, you will definately get use to it in about a week. You just might have to take some benedryl and make sure that you contstantly wash your hands and don't put them to your face often (that will make your allergies flair). If you have bad allergies, then I would ask for a perscription from my doc.
Kitties aren't that bad, and if you have mild allergies to them, after about a week or two..you will be fine. Good luck.

Regular brushing of the cat may help keep dander to a minimum.

you need to keep your apt free and clear of the cat..
if it's a room you share in a house with a cat...
keep your room door at all times and spend less time in the other rooms that the cat goes in..
