There is about 3500 calories in one pound of weight. Quite simply if you burn 3500 more calories in a week then you consume you should lose 1 pound of weight. If you eat too few calories you'll lower your metabolism and you may gain fat.
Hope this answer helps.
Take care,
Lee

looks like everyone's had their say, and it's about what I would have said. Loose at most 2-3 pounds a week. From what you say you weigh, you're in a good range. You might have some problem areas, which you may look into toning. BIG TIPS from a GUY: 1. Most guys like a little more than skin and bones. 2. You are not fat, you have nice padding. 3. Guys look at women who have something to look at, not those with nothing to them. 4. Kinda hard to have any fun with nothing at all. 5. It doesn't matter. All you need to know is that it takes 3500 excess calories in 1 week to burn 1 lb.

3500 Calories = 1 lb. To lose weight you either burn off or eat less to add to this amount in order to lose weight. The same applies if you want to gain weight.

One pound of fat is equal to 3,200 calories. Also, don't go strictly by weight. Have your body mass index checked. Weight charts do not account for individual features very well.
