When I was your age, they always said "an aspirin held tightly between the knees!"
If you're under 35, you can take the birth control pills in relative safety. Are IUD's still available? You can use a diaphragm, but he should also use a condom if you go that route (double blind safety).
Take a temperature chart and stay away from times when you have a drop-spike as those are your ovulation times when it's easiest to get pregnant.
I tied my tubes cause I didn't need a temporary respite... I needed a permanent end to pregnancies.

Just a normal IUD Depo has too many side effects. I went on depo for 6 months and it took 3 years to fall pregnant again after that

Depo has way too many side effects. I would go with an IUD. They can be removed at any time but last up to 5 years

Mirena is an IUD that contains hormones to prevent you from becoming pregnant for up to five years. The good thing about it is if you decide that you want to conceive again, you can have it removed easily and can become pregnant again right away.
I have four kids and haven't been able to make the finite decision that I don't want anymore. This was a good choice for me.

I recommend an IUD. Other forms mess w/your hormones and have side effects like weight gain and other hazardous effects like bloodclots....

Natural family planning with basal records.
No side effects, messing with your hormones, etc. It takes a little more discipline, but is VERY effective if done right.
Women who know their cycles (NFP) statistically detect cancer/infections earlier than those that don't.
