Unless you know of any good reasons why Baby shouldn't have her cake and eat it too, certainly!

Have the cameras ready, give baby a birthday bib, and a pretty (washable!) outfit, and ...

Let her eat cake!

Assuming you've started baby on solids and s/he has shown no allergies (milk, wheat, eggs) then cake won't be a problem! If you make it at home, be sure the ingredients have already been tried (baking powder & soda would be in teething biscuits) although chocolate may cause some reaction if baby has never had cocoa in anything. If you are getting the cake from a bakery, try to lessen the intake of frosting because it's made mostly from shortening (like Crisco) and powdered sugar. It may cause looser-than-normal stools, but won't be harmful, just sweet.

Baby may not want to eat cake/frosting after trying it because everything they have eaten up until now is usually more bland, so don't be dismayed if s/he doesn't eat more than one bite - just have ALL the cameras ready for that first bite!

Congratulations and Happy Mother's Day from a mother of five and grandmother of three :-)

Of course. That's one of the milestones of a first birthday (first birthday cake).

I don't condone giving regular sweets to your kids, but birthday cake is another story.

When you give her birthday cake, keep any allergens in mind. If she's allergic to eggs, milk products, chocolate, or wheat products, there are specialty cakes out there she can have. If you don't want to give her sugar, there are also sugar-free cakes.

Most people I know will make a little mini cake that is a kind of copy of the big cake, just for the baby. If it's nice out and you want to have part of the party outside, that would be a great part to move out there. Strip her down to her diaper (you don't want her first experience with cake to be in a fancy party dress or other cute clothes), put her in her high chair, and give her the mini cake. After that, it can be a pretty funny show. My oldest son just picked at the icing for about five minutes before turning the cake upside down on the tray and digging in (literally). My niece reached in and grabbed fistfuls of it.

Sure, a one year old should be able to eat some table food...especially at her birthday!

We had a special cupcake made for our daughter for her first birthday (that way she didn't ruin the good cake for everyone else). She loved it...at first. Cakes are sweet and soft and can easily be chewed and digested by the baby. My daughter loved licking the icing off of her fingers until she realized she was covered with a mess. Then she started crying. Poor girl!!

Sure...let that baby have some cake and, as they say, eat it too.

Yes. You can decide if you want to make your own "healthy" cake, or just buy from the bakery.

We got a bakery cake, and I actually offered a bit to my daughter, but she didn't really want it.

Some people make a cake, and a cupcake for the baby and put the baby in the highchair and let them "have at it" and take lots of fun pictures of the kid getting blue icing or pink icing all over their face. (Or chocolate!) We had so many people we kind of forgot to do that tradition.

We confer with preemies as having an "adjusted age" in line with their start date. Your babies' adjusted age is 3 months under her truthfully age. some father and mom might have no qualms feeding cake to a toddler of 9 months or perhaps much less. individually, i would not do it. I additionally had a toddler who became into severely early, and that i don't think he have been given cake or ice cream on his first birthday. as a be counted of certainty, he became into purely commencing up solids at that factor. the main up-tp-date study is that the order wherein food is provided has little or no concerning hypersensitive reactions, even if if there are hypersensitive reactions interior the family contributors. yet i became into very careful approximately what my infants ate while they have been little.

Absolutely, that's what makes it fun. On my daughters first birthday we got her an individual cake and let her tear into it. If you have a Publix grocery store in your town, they will give you the cake I mentioned for free for the first birthday. It makes for some great pictures!!!!
