last night i was visiting a friend, a fellow furre as myself. i went to thier house in my wolf costume and nothing underneath. anyway it takes a long time to get to the house. as i was driving back i had to use the restroom BADLY not having any place else to go i went inside of a Publix and decided to look for one there. just so you know(i dont have any pix so ill just describe it)my wolf suit looks just like a regular mascot costume but with bra-cups underneath to look like a chest. no clothes but nothing i would consider bad anyway. i guessed they would just think i was a mascot for a team or something.. but shortly after leaving the bathroom i was being questioned by the police in front of the store! he said ppl had been complaining about me. then he asked for my name and i seriously dont know what came over me but i said "Makoto Whitefang" to make it short i was charged w/ lying to an officer (my name) and they said my costume was indecent! i have to go to trial soon.is that fair??

There is obviously more to this story than you're telling us. The only advise I can give you is to plead your case to the court and hope they buy it. If the officer tells the rest of the story you're going to have to rely on what the judge believes.

By going in to a public place where a costume is not normally the "dress of the day" you apparently alarmed or concerned others who thought it COULD have been a ploy to disguise yourself while attempting to conduct an illegal activity. But you weren't arrested for wearing the wolf suit....you were arrested for giving a false name!

Now we both know that was not your intent, however, if you watch or read enough news stories, there are some pretty weird limits folks have gone to conduct their illegal business. But it doesn't matter that you were wearing the costume...you were arrested for giving a false name.

Even though this is a store used by the public, it IS private property therefore the owner/management has the right to trespass you from the property. But you weren't arrested for the costume...you were...you got it....arrested for giving a false name!

Where you messed up was telling the officer a name not your own or true name. Even though it was only in jest, the officer was not there to watch a comedy show but to do his job as requested by the property owner.

I feel your need to use the restroom my be understood by the judge, however, the judge may take the "Providing False Name to an Officer" as a more serious event.

Hope it turns out for the best.

I think you misunderstand the reason for your arrest. It appears that your costume was enough for someone to call the police to make an inquiry. But what you were charged with was lying. It nothing to do with your suit. It had to do with you being flippant when asked a reasonable question. In your own words, "i don't know what came over me but..." It was not reasonable for you to lie. Try to get the charges reduced when you go to court.

Hope this helps.

Be glad you didn't go as Woodsie the Owl or Smokey the Bear. Imitating them is a Federal Crime. You could wind up being GITMOIZED

If you weren't being a nuisance, sounds like BS to me. I would have posed for a pic with you and your costume. LOL. You must have found this copper on a bad night.

What in the world makes you equate cops with fairness?
