It is funny whenever you actually shed light on the hypocrisy of those who express patriotism, but who never actually live it out. I always find those who speak the loudest about their fervor for this country, are the least willing to sacrifice for it, or let their kids die for it. When you look on any freeway in American, and you see numerous SUVs and cars festooned with bumper stickers and ribbons, all professing a vehement support for the troops, you would think that the military is burgeoning with over recruitment. You would surmise that their recruitment rolls would be so full that they would have to turn people away.
Yet the reality is quite opposite from the bumper sticker patriotism that most Americans profess. Military recruiters are finding it increasingly difficult to meet their quotas, and there has been a sharp decline in recruitment in all branches of the service. So there has to be a vast disconnect here between the expression of patriotism of your average yuppie American, and the actual true number of patriots that are in this country.
Speaking for myself, I would never even entertain putting on a bumper sticker or wearing a ribbon stating that I support the troops. Could I, after all, really support actions, such as the ones that my government is engaged in over in Iraq, that are patently against my moral fiber? I don’t think I can.
People always state that one can support the troops, and NOT support the unjust cause they are fighting for. To these people I just have one question to ask. Did these men enter the military voluntarily or are they conscripts? The answer to that question is obviously that they are all volunteers in the armed forces. So what does that signify? What that means is that we have men who are cognizant of the fact that they were signing away their rights, to make independent moral decisions, to a government, who historically has been known to use its military for immoral and self-serving ends (think Vietnam).
Hence, they are, by their own volition, allowing themselves to be used as pawns for immoral means at some future date. Why should I support such men, who willfully abdicate such a God given right to make decisions concerning right and wrong to a government who consistently does wrong to serve its own depraved ends, and most of the time at any expense. I cannot support those men, because in their complicity, they are just as culpable of all the crimes committed in Iraq, as the government who ordered them to commit those crimes.
Only a conscript army, where men are forced against their own will, and on pain of death by their government, to kill for aims they don’t believe in, can soldiers be excused from moral responsibility. In an all volunteer military, such as the one we have in this country, I cannot excuse or support any soldier, because they, by signing their enlistment papers, knowingly give this government license to use them for any heinous deed that it see fit, and that makes the enlistee into the army just as immoral as the government who orders them to kill people for the benefit of defense contractors, engineering firms, and oil companies.
So, no, I emphatically assert that I do not support the troops, and I will never decorate my car with a ribbon or any other insignia implying that I do, unless that sticker reads : “ I support the troops by making them do the moral thing and forcing them back home so they cannot kill anyone else”.

Because none of the stories you put down here make sense. None of them are legitimate Military Questions. You've basically attempted to hijack this section for your political views, or worse, pass your attempts at fiction off as real life stories. Where you should really be posting is in the Political section, or on a blog where people are free to ignore your corner of cyberspace.
What business would you have interferring with the free will of an 18-year old anyways? It's an all-volunteer military. Why is it "Thank you! I want my son t fight for Bush"? Because we swear an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. Presidents come and go, just like any other politician.
It's not like you have a long line of supporters here; the vast majority of respondents to your spurious pseudo-Questions hold you in complete and total contempt. If they are war supporters, it's fairly obvious why. If I was an antiwar activist, I wouldn't want to have anything to do with you.
Maybe if you stopped grandstanding, you would retain some dignity, but you've more or less abandoned even a shred of that. It's not that you're hated per se, you're in the same category as panhandlers who claim they have HIV/AIDS and those who carry placards stating "The world will end tomorrow".
You're not helping anybody, least of all yourself. You should seek some sort of counseling, perhaps. In all seriousness, that could help. If not, there's no cracking you out of your fantasies except yourself.

First of all, let me say there's a difference in Supporting the troops and Joining the service. Sometimes, yes, they do intertwine, but who doesn't support their peers in times of need? If you support the homosexual community's right to marriage, does that mean that you're a homosexual? No. Just like supporting something, a cause or group, such as the Troops, is different from putting the time and effort into being a part of said group. And trust me, it takes a lot of time and effort when you join. I'm in my second year of being in the Texas National Guard, and I speak from a little, and I do mean little, experience.
Second of all, let me say that we Don't fight for Bush. We follow his orders because he's our commander-in-chief, but we don't fight For him. Same way with any job, you do what your boss asks you to do for your job, but you wouldn't do something, say run up to Burger King for him, simply because he's your boss. Make sense?
And third of all, the war supporters dislike you because you're being a jackass. How are you helping them? Simply because someone differs from your opinion and you believe that by being a smart *** you're helping them? And yes, you are being a smart ***. If you don't like the war, fine. Protest it all you want, but don't insult the people who are over there in 100+ heat wearing full on battle gear. Or if you do, at Least have the common courtesy to go over there and see what it's like to be in the desert.

This is the second time I have read this BS posting of yours. I can't believe they let you back on again.
Like I said last time, when the soldiers find out what you have said to their parents they are gonna kick your tail....
I so hope I am there cuz I wouldn't see a thing.......Somehow you just ended up on the ground with the crap beat out of you.
Too bad they don't shanghai people into service anymore. Then they could put you on a vessel and you could have the crap kicked out of you daily.

How many of your children have volunteered, erudite? What's good for the goose is good for the gander. When you start sending your kids over there, perhaps the "war supporter" you approach will respect your opinion.
Hypocrisy in action -- the typical libtard asking people he disagrees with to make a sacrifice that he/she is unwilling to make.
You take the cake, erudite. This is another of your weekly lies that you post here to troll and make yourself feel big. What a pathetic loser.

I hate to be rude but every question you post here makes you look like a fool.
Someone who is 18 makes the decision on their own as to whether or not they want to join the US Armed Forces.
No one in the military fights for the president, they fight for the country. If this was the case then no one would have fought for Bill Clinton, but they did for the country.
If you do actually ask people these questions and they look at you funny its because the questions themselves are completely ludicrous, and obviously anyone who would ask a perfect stranger such questions must be completely out of their mind.
Thats most likely why people look at you funny. Another reason could be that your personal appearance would warrant such a look, but there is no way to verify that given this venue.
This question was idiotic, more than likely you know that already.

Sad but true, as long as it doesn't hit home people don't care if others die. If these people you talk to, who support the war had their own love ones in the middle of the war then they would seriously think about making peace. The world would be a better place if every single one of us would work very hard at making peace as oppose to making war.
