When those who REALLY are trying to live it, refrain from doing all the things that our flesh naturally wants to do? It takes STRENGTH to not feed the lusts of the flesh in a world where 'anything goes' and you're encouraged to do whatever feels good.. It takes strength to walk a righteous path. (Evidenced by the number who FAIL to do it) Anyone who mocks Christians for how they strive to live their lives and thinks its easy to be a 'sheep' needs to try it... They'd find its the hardest thing to do in your LIFE...but it has the greatest reward.

Most of the Christians we meet do not "walk a righteous path".

It's unfair to the decent Christians, but the fact of the matter is that the Christians we're most likely to hear about are the Pat Robertson types, the George Bush types, and the trolls who post here.

I personally know a LOT of smart Christians, but that's only because I work at a Christian college. If I didn't, I'd probably have to base my entire opinion of Christians on the morons who make all that noise about creationism, the anti-abortion activists, and the anti-American dominionists.

Of course it takes even more strength of character to be an atheist. If you think that being a Christian is hard, try walking in our shoes for a while. It takes a LOT more discipline than following the crowd as a Christian does.

Dill, I don't know what you think I'm trying to excuse here. I haven't done anything wrong.
As for "You have His word, use it", no, I do not. There is no "god" speaking - just people claiming that their words come from god.

There is nothing arrogant about being an atheist. It means humbly admitting that you don't know everything, and that you're not speaking for god.

I was willing to accept that yours was a sincere question until you threw in that gratuitous insult. So much for walking a righteous path, huh?

Funny. I've never heard it said that Christians are weak-minded. But there are errors in your assertion, so I'll take this opportunity to correct them:
:
1. Most Christians do not normally refrain from fleshy desires.
2. It is wrong to assume that only Christians do not feed lusts of the flesh. Many atheist don't either.
3. Many Christians do not walk a righteous path and many atheist do.
4. You left out the fact that many other religious people can make the same assertions. None of the them are wholly Christian.

Some may think it is rather 'feeble'-minded to make some of these uneducated assertions.

Well people think that christians are lying to themselves. They think christians arent able to deal with the "truth" that god is a fiction of the imagination. Certainly most of these people cannot see the deeper meaning of the true belief of the nature of god but many christians dont believe this. Many of them are just using christianity to cover a void, or a shame, or to avoid dealing with truth. The real christians have to put up with this bad rep because to be a true christian one must accept the failings of the flesh and let go of many attachments. Help people. Be the last one to judge, and many other hardships.
Most people dont notice the real ones because they cannot believe them and arent willing to go through the trials to become someone of this standing.

They fear!

P.S im not christian but i do understand to some degree the real message of the one they call jesus.

Good christians are not only weak minded, but also weak hearted! Anyone with a strong passionate heart could never resist it's impulses all the time. Chastity is weakness of the spirit, virtue is weakness of the mind.

The greatest sins are the forbearance of any indulgence in appetite, and a lack of ability or willingness to profit by such experiences of indulgence: Abstinence and Stupidity.

Most people would be unable to live like Christ.
Loving every human on the planet is a pretty tall order!
I know it would be extremely difficult for me to love the fundamentalists. And there in lies the problem. Blind obedience to scripture is considered not thinking for yourself ,also known as being "weak-minded'.
Unfortunately, it's hard for most people to understand the commandments let alone keep them! So if people are a little leery of your intentions, remember, God will judge what man cannot.
Strive to make yourself better, stay away from the "Christian-retail-machine" (products sold in the name of Christ that are just intended to steal your money) , and stop pushing your religion on people who don't want to hear about it.

You are trying to explain something to people who have never
experienced salvation through Jesus Christ.

I Corinthians 2:14 tells us that "The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God for they are foolishness to him;
neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."

Translated that means: A person who has never repented of their sin and exercised faith in God through Christ cannot possibly understand spiritual matters! Those things appear to be foolish to them and they can't know them because the spiritual things are taught by God's Holy Spirit!

We are to rather pity them. Blindness is a terrible thing to live
with - especially in the spiritual realm! People without Christ are like puppets on a string. The devil says intellectualize all things, and they do. The devil says smoke dope and get drunk and they do! The devil says lust after anyone you want to of any gender and they do! The devil says lie and cheat all you want to and they do! Since they are spiritually blind they can't see the devil working either so they don't.

NOW THERE IS A LOT OF POTENTIAL FOR THUMBS DOWN ON THIS ANSWER BUT MAJORITY IS NEVER THE
PROOF THAT THE MAJORITY IS RIGHT. Proof that many people are deluded is going to be brought out before the Great White Throne Judgment in Revelation 20. Christ was wrongly accused and murdered! He said that those who hated truth will hate you just as they hated Him so don't be surprised in it. "All who will live godly in Christ SHALL suffer PERSECUTION. - 11 Timothy 3:12

Is this a request for sympathy? Living austerily is a Buddist trait, not a Christian one because Jesus teaches us that God wants us to have an abundant life. When Jesus told the richman to sell all he had and to follow him, he was emphisising the point that too many care for their own comfort to the disadvantage of others. Thus that rich type cannot enter heaven, not all rich.

I never heard that Christians were weak-minded. But I shall try to answer your passionate question. First of all, anyone who says he or she is a Christian, might not truly be a Christian. In my opinion, to be a true Christian, you should live the complete, spiritual way of a Christian. Weak-minded people are generally those who are narrow and worldly. I have seen many people who say they are Christian, and yet they foolishly denounce all other spirituality, mock other religions arrogantly, and indulge in secular pleasures. So, yes, those particular Christians are, indeed, weak-minded. Last of all, if God is the one you seek, why make religious denominations? Whether you are Christian, or Hindu, or Muslim, or Buddhist, or anything else - We are all on a ladder to God. Whosoever breathes fervently Christ, or Brahman, or Allah, or the Buddha, shall reach God and reap eternal freedom.

They themselves are makers of themselves, so goes their fears. They will not build the fortitude it takes to walk the path of our Lord's way. That way is a hard road with a narrow door, so in looking at what "the way" has to offer fear overtakes them and alternatives are searched for. Having made their decisions they have to back themselves up with something don't they? So they are the pots who call the kettle black.
They will not nurture a strong mind and spirit so we are called weak-minded and this deflects the stigma from themselves.
Not to worry though. The Lord Jesus told us we would get this from a lot of people, and that we shouldn't take it personally; because He said that those who do this to us are really doing it to Him. Don't concern yourself too much about it, God will take care of it all. He will see to it that those who mock will come to see the light in time, or know it when it is too late. None of them, nor we Christians will have nothing to use as excuses come our day of judgment.
God Bless you and take care of all about you.

Why do you assume I advocate doing what feels good? If you know WHY you shouldn't do it, being moral is a lot easier.

I don't sleep around because:
I find more pleasure with someone I care about.
I don't want to develop emotional attachments only to have them broken and be hurt. This works both ways, I don't want to hurt anyone either.
STD's

When you have reasons for your personal morals it is much easier to follow them as opposed to trying to live by rules just because someone told someone who told someone an authority figure (god) said not to.
