It all depends on what kind of ship you're on. Aircraft carriers deploy for about seven months on average, where as submarines only deploy for two or three months.

surface vessels are gone anywhere from 3-9 months. Subs, about 3-6 months . Air Squadrons average 6 months. and if you get tapped as an Individual..12-15 months.

this doesn't count shorter underway periods ranging from a day to several weeks for training and whatnot.
