pneumonia is serious and can be life threatening if not treated. At the hospital they will check your sister's vital signs and start on antibiotics, most likely in an IV. They will also more than likely give her breathing treatments and/steroids to help her to breathe better as ordered by her doctor. I hope this helps you and your sister will get to come home soon. Good luck.

I have a son that is 4 years old and he has had pneumonia 4 times due to his Asthma. When she is admitted most likely they will just give her some antibiotics and some steroids. If her O2 (Oxygen) levels are low they may put her into an Oxygen tent. They like the levels to be at least in the high 90's like 97% or more! It is a scary sickness but with a good team of health care professionals she should be alot better in about a week.
Good Luck and God Bless!

Pneumonia is a build up of fluid in the lungs that makes it difficult to breathe. It is commonly caused by a bacterial infection which can be treated with antibiotics.
I would suggest you read the article I put in the source list. I am having a hard time summarizing it because much of the information is important.

I won't lie; pneumonia is serious, especially for a six year old. That being said, the hospital is the best place for her. Depending on if it's bacterial or viral, they will put her on antibiotics and give her nebulizer treatments. They may also give steroids to calm the inflammation in her airways. Worst case scenario, she may have to be intubated for a few days. I hope everything works out! It is a scary thing, but I'm sure she'll be fine! Best of luck and keep us updated!

They will put her in the hospital
start an IV for IV antibiotic therapy
respiratory therapy will give her nebulizer treatments and help her to cough and deep breath
they will give her acetaminophen for fevers achs and pains
they may try to help her to cough up some pflegm so they can send it to microbiology to determine what kind of pneumonia she has.
they will check her oxygen saturation and give her oxygen if she needs it
Children recover quickly. She will be out of the hospital before you know it. Probably in a couple days.
Im a RN in a hospital.

Well, it's not good, but it's rarely fatal, and doesn't usually cause permanent damage, so chances are she'll be okay.
They'll probably give her an IV of antibiotics and fluids, and have her take inhaled medicine. (Nebulizer treatments.) She'll be in there for a few days, or up to a week or two, depending on how bad the infection is. And she'll probably be restricted on activity for a while. Pneumonia is no fun, but many people live through it every year.
I hope she gets better soon.

Dear ,,
pneumonia is a very broad term
most people just get fine after a course of antibiotics
you hold on !!
but the doctors will run some test to find out if there is some rarer causes behind or not

Almost Always It Ends Up That Younger Patients Live Through It So They Might Only Need To Give Her Anti-Biotics Or Just Treat It As They Do The Flu... Bed Rest And Plenty Of Fluids...
Best Of Luck! :)

Pnuemonia can be a serious illness if left untreated. Your little sister will be fine as long as she gets the treatments she needs. The nurses will monitor her temp. and start her on a regimen of antibiotics and possibly breathing treatments (to open her airways), ordered by the doctor. Relax, your little sister should return home within a few days with a clean bill of health. Hope this helps.

It's rare she could end up an asthmatic or she could die. Most people live through it. I had it as a child and it messed up my lungs. how full are her lungs? 1 lung was completely full with infection and the other lung was 1/2 full. They had me an air machine, drugs
