It's hard to say..... it reminds me of the desperate person waiting in a restaurant for their date to arrive only to be stood up.... they're so desperate to believe that the person loves them that they sit there for hours making excuses.... "Oh he/she must've gotten held up at work.... or maybe they got into an accident, what if their parents got sick and they needed them..... yeah that's gotta be it!" .... they choose one phrase, reason, one EXCUSE and they grasp onto it & they repeat it to themselves over & over again to keep their faith in something that doesn't exist. I think they protest so much so that people see their devotion & think "Oh they're really devoted... they must know the right way!" and they'll gain converts... which, in turn, makes those people feel that their way truly is the right way because more people are joining.
It's all a cycle of self-delusion that leads to believing in something that doesn't exist.

we ought to continuously do so each and all of the time. making useful of your concept. You state: outdoors of the biblical God (which will nicely be disproved) can we are saying with out doubt that no eternal being exists outdoors of our information or concept? One, you could not teach that the God of the Bible isn't authentic and a pair of, in case you ask the 2d question, it could have responded the 1st. what's conceited? in case you could gamble and comprehend that a undeniable selection is often arising 10 cases extra then any selection, could you guess on that selection or in basic terms a random, possibility selection. I say that i could take the prospect at faith because it has the promise of salvation and eternal lifestyles, on a similar time as your concept, nicely has what. So is this Christian lack of information or is this only being clever and getting to know that which has a much better possibility? The question is do I take the prospect or do I only stumble on my own until the day I die, then i visit be certain, or maybe no longer.

Well Mel, I suppose you could call me an outspoken Christian, but it has nothing to do with trying to hold on to something that does not exist. In fact, the days I come here I am more and more convinced of and dedicated to service to God.
No, I don't think you will find many Christians letting go and saying there is no God or Muslim's giving up on Allah or Wiccan's on their Goddess...but...good try.

I believe that the people you're talking about are basically without hope. Those most devoted of theists are essentially lost to reality. I think what we should do is just continue to talk, continue to expose falsehood, continue to resist tradition.
Have you watched many old movies? In the old movies, everybody was always smoking cigarettes. In new movies, any sympathetic character is not likely to be a smoker. By spreading the truth about cigarettes, we have changed mainstream culture significantly. Of course people still smoke, but not in restaurants, schools or courthouses; it's positive change! And the tobacco companies are finally starting to pay the price for their deception through legal settlements, declining profits, and a less powerful lobby in legislature.
It is my opinion that the greatest single enemy of true moral advancement in America (and perhaps the world) is the fictional God of Abraham and the followers thereof. The insidious idea of this god has spread over the centuries to cover just over half the earth- but there is hope! As the truth continues to be brought to light, as we continue to talk about our increasing understanding of the physical world, as we continue to resist judgement by the standards of that ancient tome the Bible, we make progress in our battle against the delusion of God.
Humanity as a whole may never break free of religion- it's a part of us, and maybe it should be. But we can advance a humanist agenda regardless, by changing the role of religion in our society from a dominating presence to a secondary influence. And who knows- maybe eventually we can truly break the spell of religion and advance together as a responsible and moral human race.

Before you go on ranting about something you have no real knowledge of you should get some evidence to back up what you say. Isn't that what the rude atheists in Yahoo Answers are always saying to Christians?
I am glad that all Atheists don't come off the way you do as superior and all-knowing. Many of them are sensitive and kind to others who don't believe as they do.

Do you really know that there is no God? Setting aside all of the books, ideas, history and Christians I don't know how any one certain person qualifies themselves to say something that has never been seen does not exist. Before the microscope, did cells exist? Did other galaxies exist before the telescope?

Rather than actually answer your question which would expose them for who they are they turn the question around and give you some scripture mumble jumbo which makes sense to only other delusional believers. You are right in your thinking that the more outspoken a person of faith is the more desperate. By the way if you give a thumbs down you acknowledge that I am right by doing so!

I have liked the answers so far. Especially the one that said i was close-minded, because i believe in God. Don't you have something better to do than ramble on about something that in general makes no accomplishment to change the mind of others in any way rather than have me as a christian see you as a troll ,and in general ignore everything else you say?

Spiritually Blind the lot of you, I know I was one of you.
You are so blind you couldn't see TRUTH even if your mother pleaded on her death bed slapped you around the face with it. You are all so blind, no-one can tell you ignorant lot any different that is why you are pitiful. I feel sorry for you. You really are lost and you know nothing like dumb animals walking ever close to the edge. We are trying to help you yet you throw it back. YOU JUST DON'T KNOW, I TELL YOU THE TRUTH, I KNOW, I could plead and plead and plead and you wouldn't hear a word...
