Because that is what some people are all about...nothing means more to them, then their Money....this is the one and only thing they worship....

There seems to be two different things defined by the word 'materialism'.
The first kind of 'materialism' could be also called 'consumerism'. It's the preoccupation with accumulating things. What's funny is that some of the most possessive people I know, some of the biggest pack-rats and people with maxed-out credit cards, call themselves Christians. In spite of their blather about believing in spiritual things, it's very obvious that they base their happiness and sense of security on designer handbags and double-latte cappucinos.
Then there's 'materialism' as in the monistic philosophy that the physical universe is the basis of all existence. What's funny is that I've known a few hippies and converts to Buddhism who proclaim themselves to be materialists, but seem to have little urge to give in to consumer culture...

The city of Babylon, is a capitalist nation, and the whole world will follow after it, for they all seek after the beast. You can not serve God and mammon, for you will hate one and love the other.
The Word of God will be taken from this generation.
