File as soon as you can. If you have a refund coming, there won't be a penalty for filing late. If you owe, there will be - depending on the circumstances of your hospitalization, you might or might not be able to get some or all of it waived.

Has long as you do not owe the IRS any money you are fine. Do not worry about being late with filing your taxes. If you do owe any monies you need to contact the IRS immediately and speak to an agent why you were unable to file by the April 15th date. You have a legitimate cause and they would more than likely waive any penalties.
