we bought a house with leftover paints, garden chemicals, oil, and other chemicals in their containers still in it. What's the best way to dispose of these in an environmentally friendly way?
Please list websites for reference if you can.

Contact your town and see if they offer a Hazardous Materials disposal facility for your use. Sometimes cities will have an "amnesty day" where you can bring in your waste materials.

If not, contact your state department of environmental quality and get them to advise you on where to dispose of the materials properly.

I would reference some sites if I knew what city/state you lived in.

Look up your local landfill. Take them there. They have proper facilities to dispose of chemicals.

Yes the local land-fill or an "Enviro Depot" are your best bet. Phone first.
