I think you hit the nail right on the head. They are attacking what they fear and do not understand. The Mormans have years of bad press due to that multiple wives thing of long ago. I can understand, being a Wiccan myself. We are still misunderstood also. Perhaps someday people will outgrow the need to leap before they look and will actually strive to knowand understand before they judge. I only hope that happens in our life time my friend.
Blessings to you upon your path as a Mormon, may it bring to you as many years of peace and joy as mine has brought to me.

I think the first answerer is correct that ALL faiths do get bashed and ridiculed at some point. However, I think LDS beliefs get attacked more frequently because, from what I have seen, there is more misleading information about LDS beliefs than most other Christian denominations. Same thing for Jehovah's Witnesses. I think you hit the nail on the head: people tend to criticize what they don't understand, or what they don't believe. I'm willing to admit that LDS beliefs may look different to an outsider, but once a person goes to the source and has someone explain it to them, they will find that it makes more sense than what they originally thought.
Edit: I also don't think people realize that when they say things like, "How can anyone believe this??", or "This doesn't make any sense!"...when they say things like that, they are also attacking the people who follow the faith, not just the faith itself...albeit unintentionally, but they are still putting down the people as well.

Why do you think it's just Mormonisn? ALL faiths are attacked, whether it's Christian, Hindu, Muslim, or even atheism (though it isn't really a faith). Trust me, Mormons aren't special.
You could console yourself with the belief that people attack the religion only out of ignorance. You'd be wrong though. I won't deny that some people attack what they don't understand, but a lot of attackers are very educated on what they target.
All religions have their outrageous claims. And those claims are not believed by everyone. Not everyone can accept stories of Jesus in America or burning bushes or holy lands. You just have to accept that people will dislike your religion. It's true for all religions.

I don't think it's just us "mormons" that are attacked. I see things on here all the time about other religions. But I do think it's true that people fear what they don't understand, or won't take the time to understand.
Being an LDS person is hard, no matter where you live. I live in Utah, across Utah Lake from "happy valley", and most of my neighbors aren't LDS. I do think they understand more of my religion since they live in mormonville, but there are things they still don't get. We are all nice to each other, but even here there are times when they will say some remark about if we weren't mormon we would do other things with them. We usually laugh off that kind of stuff, but sometimes it still upsets me.
I think that for anyone, no matter what religion, just agreeing to disagree would be a good thing. But most are willing to believe what they hear, or have heard, from people who aren't in our religion, or who have left the church for various reasons. Like these people are going to have a lot of good things to say about us! So take everything on here with a grain of salt, and just let it roll off. Someday maybe some of the same people who are saying mean things will learn something that changes their mind a little, or can learn tolerance and love for their neighbors.

Since I have learned other theology and other christians beliefs othen then Mormanism, I have seen a differnat side of christianity and decided for myself that I did not liek the Mormon theology, plus the christian faith explained some weird things spritually happened to me when I was a mormon that mormanism left a question Mark, but wicca and aeithism could not explain it either (being an athiest only made me feel I was deluded, thats how I explained everything, but didn't really explain things).

its because they're a cult that attempted to get human beings by making use of Christianity. they took the real bible and say that it really is all lies, it really is an attack on Christians, Jews, and Muslims as they carry the bible real. also they substitute their beliefs each and each and every of the time. first it became its okay to have more effective than one spouse than look now its no longer. so do not attack others in case you do not opt to be attacked back. also they call themselves Christians, yet they pass antagonistic to the significant truths that each and each and each person Christians carry. like that God is the in hassle-free words god and that the daddy, Son and Holy Spirit are one god they call 3. it really is why human beings attack they lies of the mormon cult.

It's not just Mormons who are attacked so are JW, Jews, Muslims and the list could go on for forever. But any form of persecution against anyone for any reason is hatred. Hatred is wrong and always will be wrong. America was formed so that we could have relgious freedom....it is sad really but even though that is what we fought and died for. We have not given that liberity to everyone. Just look though America's history.

I am Mormon, and while I don't really have an opinion on whether Mormons or any other religious group is being picked on, it doesn't really matter to me one way or the other.
If I do not choose to "accept" an insult as an insult, there really never was an insult in the first place. - a Taoist saying that I really like.

Not mormons...."mormonism". mormons are nice people, the doctrine is what is not agreed with. BTW all religions...wait I wont use that word because im religious to eating and showering and brushing my teeth everyday...lets use faiths...yes all faiths get attacked if you want to call it that... Oh and I forgot, the same way Joe smith said Christians were the antichrist and an abomination. Personally I don't attack people I just invite them to learn the truth. If you go to this site and read you will find lots of other nice things he said about God's people... God Bless you and keep you....
